Oh boy.....

Fox News host Tucker Carlson dismisses white supremacy as 'a hoax'

https://www.theguardian.com/media/2019/aug/07/tucker-carlson-white-supremacy-fox-news-hoax

Tucker Carlson, the Fox News host who regularly echoes Donald Trump’s anti-immigrant “invasion” rhetoric, has described white supremacy in America as a “hoax” and a “conspiracy theory”.

Coming just days after a Texas man allegedly killed 22 people in El Paso after posting a manifesto complaining of a “Hispanic invasion”, the prime-time news star defended the president from criticisms of his rhetoric by disputing that Trump ever “endorsed white supremacy or came close to endorsing white supremacy”.

Apart from the fact that it's objectively not a hoax and the FBI vehemently disagrees with him. God FOX is so bad.

Context is important; his argument rests on the sheer number of active "white supremacists" which he believes would easily fit in a football stadium and thus being insignificant to the greater issues at hand facing the country. Clearly it ignores a large number of soft-spoken, non-forward racists who exist in the country, so the argument is fairly fallible. With that said, the onslaught of media coverage significantly exaggerates the issue at hand here, much like its pandering of anti-police rhetoric.

Tucker Child-rapist-apologist Carlson is exactly what's wrong with Fox news. You can be the most obnoxious person saying the most inflammatory drivel with a horrible past of terrible commentary, and instead of being pushed to an extreme late night slot, or just fired, you're given primetime.

No surprises with this kind of comment. Put in in the pile with all the rest.

@zaryia: It's a pretty minor issue in the grand scheme of things. The media however would have you believe it's a top threat to the country.

Opinion or not, what he stated was objectively false. You can't say the Earth being round is a conspiracy theory or hoax and write it off as passable due to "opinion".

@r-gamer said:

The top threat? No idea. But it IS s a threat, and most recent mass shooting/domestic terrorism happened due to it. I'd expect major coverage.

Just like how Islamic Terrorism in the USA gets major coverage last time it happened.

@zaryia: It's a very minor one though that's a fact. About 107 people have been killed from right wing terror groups since 9/11. So 107 deaths over 18 years.

Compare that to 1.3 million auto deaths every year, 1 million suicides or 70,000 OD's yearly.

Like I said it is a very minor threat comparatively. I expect lots of media coverage from the left wing media but its really just used to keep control of it's already brainwashed base.

It is a hoax.

With that said there are groups in ANY nationality that cause havoc.

White supremacy? Where? Theyre arguably the one "group" of people that dont have true freedom of speech, or must walk on their tip toes in what they say.

Lmfao at the entire name tho, "white supremacy".......wtf kind of pathetic generalization is that? So all the germans, irish, etc etc etc are conspiring to rid the world of "minorities"? Lmfao.

Grouping all those people into one "white" category, now thats racist.

these people get the impression that theres this large group of white supremacists and neo nazis that are going to take over the country and put trannies into death camps.. and the worlds going to end in 12 years if we dont adopt socialism, and our federal government is being ran by russians

just something else to add to the laundry list of nonsensical doom and gloom bullshit being spoon fed people to radicalize them towards violence on the left, and it would appear to be working

I know this happened in the dark days of 2 years ago and the president defended them as "Very fine people", but that was back then. Now the same president dislikes them and wants to reject them. But don't let your memory be so bad that you think these groups of people are a hoax.

@Serraph105: When he says "very fine people" he was referring to the people that didn't want the statues to be removed. They were not all white supremacist. I know that's hard for you to comprehend.

And yes the white supremacists threat is a hoax. They have killed a whopping 107 people over the past 18 years. Comparatively speaking that is pretty minor.

That's objective not a hoax BY DEFINITION. They are objectively a threat. Even the FBI says so.

Pick up a dictionary. At most you can say some people are exaggerating it, but please stop using the wrong word as Cucker Carlson did.

Now that's a conspiracy theory and hoax. Almost no one is calling for any of that or saying any of that. You sound like Islamic Terrorist apologists last decade, "But it barely happens so who cares".

A majority of the terrorist violence is by the right by the way. So it seems this "left wing radicalization" isn't working.

Your base is more brainwashed. By a large margin, probably because of their much lower education levels as well.

It was a shit show for everyone who was involved. Both sides were violent. You had people coming there looking for violence. Not everyone there was, but many were. It was the perfect recipe for conflict. Counter protesters greatly outnumbered those who were there for the rally. This was during the height of the "punch a nazi" craze, lots of college kids were driving to Charlottesville from all over the state, they were bringing bats and pepper spray because they heard on social media Nazis were having a rally there. I'm from VA, i told friends in Richmond not to go, obvious shit show. Many still went tho, everyone wants to be able to say they punched the "nazis". If people had just ignored them they would have dissolved, it would have been nothing. Also Charlottesville police was told to stand down, which was a horrible mistake. That girl may still be alive if the police hadn't been ordered to stand down, they could have deescalated it before it had gotten to that point.

A lot of white nationalist sympathizers on this post. Nothing surprising, especially from the police.

Both sides were also pretty violent during WW2. Nice to see a Nazi sympathizer, especially those who tolerate Nazis killing protesters because "they were mean to them."

“Excuse me, they didn’t put themselves down as neo-Nazis, and you had some very bad people in that group. But you also had people that were very fine people on both sides. You had people in that group – excuse me, excuse me, I saw the same pictures you did. You had people in that group that were there to protest the taking down of, to them, a very, very important statue and the renaming of a park from Robert E. Lee to another name.”

After another question at that press conference, Trump became even more explicit:

“I’m not talking about the neo-Nazis and white nationalists because they should be condemned totally.”

That's a summary from Real Clear Politics, which is rated as right-center by Media Bias/Fact Check.

If we dismiss them as being unreliable for being right-center then that means we should have no problem dismissing anything from Vox, Slate, and a few others that constantly get used as sources here with their left (not center or left center) ratings.

@drunk_pi: i have no sympathy for anyone involved with that violent shit show, I diddnt go because I dont want to be involved.

Straight up tho, if people had just ignored them, no one would have cared or listened to the racist shit heads. Instead hundreds flooded a small town to engage in conflict and they got it, a woman died durring this conflict, and the MSM gave these pieces of shit national attention.

This could have been a bear shitting in the woods, but it ended up being burning man for the MSM.

This whole situation proabably did wonders in promoting thier white race identitarian group.

Congratulations

Congratulations

Threats shouldn't be ignored.

When they are, they go from non-violent to violent. This was or was going to be the case, regardless of coverage. Right wingers are violent and it's not the mass media encouraging it. It's them feeling threatened by things that aren't actually threatening at all.

Blaming the media is laughable. It's their job to report relevant news.

Based on historical precedent, I'm going to go ahead and say that ignoring white supremacists and/or nazis and hoping they just go away is not the solution.

Unless, of course, the solution you want is a final one.

and this is the issue, you want to compare these people as the exact same threat as nazi germany, when at their worst they were white identitarians protesting the removal of a civil war statue. Ignorance is bliss, they may be stupid idenitarian racists, but don't pretend this event if ignored was going to turn into something of the scale of actual nazi genocide. I had 2 grandfathers on both sides of my family who fought and killed actual nazis and your comparison is disingenuous and disrespectful to those people.

These jackasses are rejected on a wide national scale, nazi germany was the overwhelming majority. Stop with the silly comparisons.

@zaryia: Context is important and it's something you seem to have completely lost in this scenario.

Tucker is simply stating its terribly over exaggerated and it is. The left has linked Donald Trump to white supremacists and that is in fact a hoax. He is not a white supremacist and they are no closer to taking over the country now then they were when Obama was elected.

Hate should always be called out when it appears. However, that doesn't excuse people from calling people Nazis just because they may have different political beliefs than you.

10,000 - 15,000 in the country according to the FBI. Many in the media would have you believe there is millions.

The biggest lie is that they are "influenced" by the president. That just makes no sense.

But that's not the definition of a hoax, nor is that exactly what he said. Also he's using a straw-man argument.

Maybe next time he should say SOME people are exaggerating it (and say exactly who), instead of falsely saying it's just a hoax. All in all it just looks like he's trying to appease his nutty viewer base.

This isn't the first time he's used white supremacist talking points or ran to their defense:

10,000 - 15,000 in the country according to the FBI.

So not a hoax, and a threat as the FBI said. Got you. We can both agree Tucker is dumb as a brick.

It appears he's using a strawman that a large number of people are arguing White Supremacist Terrorism is the largest and only threat in this country. Who said that?

Many in the media would have you believe there is millions.

Who and how many?

Citation please

The biggest lie is that they are "influenced" by the president. That just makes no sense.

Their manifesto's and social media posts say otherwise. As do studies on Trump rallies and spikes in hate crimes.

Do you have proof that it's a lie, and that they are in no way influenced by Trump at all?

Hate should always be called out when it appears. However, that doesn't excuse people from calling people Nazis just because they may have different political beliefs than you.

Cry wolf too many times and people won't believe you when the wolf shows up for real.

Liberals and the left in general would be calling each others nazis the whole time if all it took was a different political view, and not a certain political view.

you know as well as anyone that the left calls people they disagree with racists, nazis, sexists, etc even when they arent.. its a tool to shut down discussion as those on your side rarely have a valid argument

Look at the news lately, there are people on the left trying to out-virtue signal themselves at this point. Did you catch the highlights of the Democratic debates, where candidates were thrown under the bus for saying they didn't agree with the idea of open borders or giving illegal aliens free taxpayer-provided healthcare?

Rep. Tulsi Gabbard goes HAM on Kamala Harris and her record as a prosecutor in California and look what the reaction is: she's a DINO, she's a Russian agent, she's secretly supporting Trump, and more.

Can we get back on topic about the real problem of White Supermacy, which is factually not a hoax or conspiracy theory?

@zaryia: You can't disprove a negative. It is up to you to prove that Trump is responsible for the increase, and I don't see it in statistics. There is no spike, but rather a steady increase since 2013.

Tucker Carlson is wrong. There's not really much else to say. White supremacists/organizations exist and our government itself views them as a threat (see FBI). It's fun to watch the normal bunch of deplorables try and justify his remarks. Just cut Tucker loose. Watching you defend him is embarrassing.

@zaryia:

On a large scale it is conspiracy. Its a bunch of paranoid people claiming white people deeming themselves supreme. Same bllsht as "white priveleged".

Again there are all kinds of hate groups but to say there is some large scale "white war against others" is downright insulting, its actually hilarious.

I don't think Trump is responsible 100%. That would be foolish.

But I do think he is partially helping embolden these people based off of the data. I mean they literally praise him on social media, regularly. Even their manifesto's mention him as a "Symbol".

The Effect of President Trump's Election on Hate Crimes

https://papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers.cfm?abstract_id=3102652

Abstract

This Essay empirically evaluates the relationship between Donald Trump’s rise to power and the recent increase in reported hate crimes. A number of critics predicted that President Trump’s divisive rhetoric during the presidential campaign and his subsequent election would embolden hate crime perpetrators, thereby contributing to more hate crimes. Media commentators have dubbed this the Trump Effect.

We find compelling evidence to support the Trump Effect hypothesis. Using time series analysis, we show that Donald Trump’s election in November of 2016 was associated with a statistically significant surge in reported hate crimes across the United States, even when controlling for alternative explanations. Further, by using panel regression techniques, we show that counties that voted for President Trump by the widest margins in the presidential election also experienced the largest increases in reported hate crimes.

Using the data from this study, we offer a novel theory that builds on the existing literature on the causes of hate crimes. We hypothesize that it was not just Trump’s inflammatory rhetoric throughout the political campaign that caused hate crimes to increase. Rather, we argue that it was Trump’s subsequent election as President of the United States that validated this rhetoric in the eyes of perpetrators and fueled the hate crime surge.

Made what obvious?

You are being paranoid. You are only proving my point.

What is untruthful about what i said? Nothing!

Theres this delusion in the media that heightens this potential for paranoia.

For example, a "black person" walks into a cafe of primarily "white people". These media outlets create this image that all these whites take notice, "uh oh look people its a black person guard your belongings!" This is utter nonsense and racist in and of itself. The REALITY is that these people in the cafe JUST DONT CARE. People pay more attention to how people carry themselves than the color of their skin.

All these bloggers and "justice" groups are to blame, along with general media outlets
