Tucker Carlson, the Fox News host who regularly echoes Donald Trump’s anti-immigrant “invasion” rhetoric, has described white supremacy in America as a “hoax” and a “conspiracy theory”.

Coming just days after a Texas man allegedly killed 22 people in El Paso after posting a manifesto complaining of a “Hispanic invasion”, the prime-time news star defended the president from criticisms of his rhetoric by disputing that Trump ever “endorsed white supremacy or came close to endorsing white supremacy”.

Apart from the fact that it's objectively not a hoax and the FBI vehemently disagrees with him. God FOX is so bad.

But Trump just said it was not a hoax.

Down with Tucker Carlson! Down with the corrupt media! Stand with your president!!!!!

Context is important; his argument rests on the sheer number of active "white supremacists" which he believes would easily fit in a football stadium and thus being insignificant to the greater issues at hand facing the country. Clearly it ignores a large number of soft-spoken, non-forward racists who exist in the country, so the argument is fairly fallible. With that said, the onslaught of media coverage significantly exaggerates the issue at hand here, much like its pandering of anti-police rhetoric.

Tucker Child-rapist-apologist Carlson is exactly what's wrong with Fox news. You can be the most obnoxious person saying the most inflammatory drivel with a horrible past of terrible commentary, and instead of being pushed to an extreme late night slot, or just fired, you're given primetime.

No surprises with this kind of comment. Put in in the pile with all the rest.

Compare that to 1.3 million auto deaths every year, 1 million suicides or 70,000 OD's yearly.

I know this happened in the dark days of 2 years ago and the president defended them as "Very fine people", but that was back then. Now the same president dislikes them and wants to reject them. But don't let your memory be so bad that you think these groups of people are a hoax.

It was a shit show for everyone who was involved. Both sides were violent. You had people coming there looking for violence. Not everyone there was, but many were. It was the perfect recipe for conflict. Counter protesters greatly outnumbered those who were there for the rally. This was during the height of the "punch a nazi" craze, lots of college kids were driving to Charlottesville from all over the state, they were bringing bats and pepper spray because they heard on social media Nazis were having a rally there. I'm from VA, i told friends in Richmond not to go, obvious shit show. Many still went tho, everyone wants to be able to say they punched the "nazis". If people had just ignored them they would have dissolved, it would have been nothing. Also Charlottesville police was told to stand down, which was a horrible mistake. That girl may still be alive if the police hadn't been ordered to stand down, they could have deescalated it before it had gotten to that point.

A lot of white nationalist sympathizers on this post. Nothing surprising, especially from the police.

Both sides were also pretty violent during WW2. Nice to see a Nazi sympathizer, especially those who tolerate Nazis killing protesters because "they were mean to them."

If we dismiss them as being unreliable for being right-center then that means we should have no problem dismissing anything from Vox, Slate, and a few others that constantly get used as sources here with their left (not center or left center) ratings.

Tucker Carlson is wrong. There's not really much else to say. White supremacists/organizations exist and our government itself views them as a threat (see FBI). This Essay empirically evaluates the relationship between Donald Trump’s rise to power and the recent increase in reported hate crimes. A number of critics predicted that President Trump’s divisive rhetoric during the presidential campaign and his subsequent election would embolden hate crime perpetrators, thereby contributing to more hate crimes. Media commentators have dubbed this the Trump Effect.

We find compelling evidence to support the Trump Effect hypothesis. Using time series analysis, we show that Donald Trump’s election in November of 2016 was associated with a statistically significant surge in reported hate crimes across the United States, even when controlling for alternative explanations. Further, by using panel regression techniques, we show that counties that voted for President Trump by the widest margins in the presidential election also experienced the largest increases in reported hate crimes.

Using the data from this study, we offer a novel theory that builds on the existing literature on the causes of hate crimes. We hypothesize that it was not just Trump’s inflammatory rhetoric throughout the political campaign that caused hate crimes to increase. Theres this delusion in the media that heightens this potential for paranoia.

For example, a "black person" walks into a cafe of primarily "white people". These media outlets create this image that all these whites take notice, "uh oh look people its a black person guard your belongings!" This is utter nonsense and racist in and of itself. The REALITY is that these people in the cafe JUST DONT CARE. People pay more attention to how people carry themselves than the color of their skin.
