Both the Energy Department and the FBI now say that covid most likely came from a lab in Wuhan. Shocked no one has mentioned this huge story here yet.

https://www.wsj.com/articles/covid-origin-china-lab-leak-807b7b0a

https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2023-02-26/covid-19-pandemic-most-likely-came-from-lab-leak-wsj

My question is what should happen to those close minded, ant-science people and organizations that for years spread covid misinformation that to paraphrase John Stewart, it was impossible for a novel coronovirus detected in Wuhan to have come from the Wuhan novel coronovirus lab.

Not only did these people/organizations spread dangerous covid misinformation saying it was impossible that it came from a lab, they attacked anyone who dared to ask basic questions and try to use the scientific method as racist/anti-science/conspriacy theorist and have their account suspended for daring to think for themselves. Even if there was a small % chance it came from the lab, basic science says to look into it.

For example:

https://www.msn.com/en-us/video/news/montage-media-says-covid-china-lab-leaked-theory-is-a-%E2%80%98debunked%E2%80%99-%E2%80%98conspiracy%E2%80%99/vi-AA182L9Y?t=40

Since China destroyed so much evidence no one knows 100% what happened, but the lab leak is a possibility. Should those who, without evidence, said it was impossible have their social media accounts suspended or face other consequences for spreading covid misinformation? If people who shared accurate information that it could have come from a lab had their account suspended or banned, what should the consequences be to those who knowingly spread misinformation?

If that is the case China should be held responsible for all the damages and deaths they caused. Over billions of dollars lost, and who knows how many businesses absolutely destroyed by the Chinese’ mishap. Obviously this will never happen, but I’d love to see them held responsible.

We don't know where it came from. At this point we will likely never know. There is nothing of new substance in this opinion.

The FBI is said with medium confidence and the Energy of Department is said with Low confidence. In other words. This is backed with very little evidence.

Meanwhile most scientific organizations both within and without the US both agree the lab leak hypothesis is really unlikely. And the Zoonotic origin is far more likely.

As the user above me said, there is no substance in any of this. But cherry picking is what tinfoilhatters like to do. Personally instead of trying to find ways to point fingers, we should look for ways to ensure something like this wont happen again. And if it does we can prevent it from being nearly as bad.

And this is needed, because to be frank, the avian flu is starting to look really dangerous. And so do the superbugs.

Anyone outlet that called a lab leak disinformation/misinformation while pushing it came from bat soup in wet markets instead should be fired and not allowed to report news.

Show me evidence, otherwise this sounds just like the government using foreign affairs for political gain.

The reverse is also true since they cannot actually make that link.

This is most likely just a weak attempt at making Americans more angry at China, so that a possible war in next couple of years is easier to support.

It's not completely confirmed, and it's still hotly debated.

Thus, I wouldn't call fact checking sources who previously did use fictional data to make the claim as misinformation. That's more in the lines of anti-vaxxing pushed by the right, if you really want to discuss malicious misinformation regarding Covid.

Did you read the articles? The reason they don't have more confidence is China destroyed a lot of the info making it impossible to confirm. The former head of the CDC and many other scientist also believe it came from a lab.

Who exactly is a tinfoilhatter? Is that a personal attack on me for daring to share an update on the origins of the worst padenmic in 100 years that's ruined society? I'm sorry if I ask questions and don't clap like a seal at everything the mainstream media that's been wrong over and over reports.

Go back and watch the video I posted. Does it look like they're searching for the truth or looking for personal attacks on those who aren't close minded.

How was it not misinformation to say that it was IMPOSSIBLE that it the Wuhan coronavirus came from the Wuhan coronavirus lab that was doing gain of function research?

If they said "most likely" or "most experts believe" or something to that effect I would have no issues. The issue was they said it was IMPOSSIBLE and attacked and banned people for having the courage to ask basic questions using the scientific method. Take a look at Jimmy Kimmel calling it a "crack pot conspiracy theory" from Trump or NPR, MSNBC, etc saying it was IMPOSSIBLE. Did you watch the montage of attacks?

All of that was dangerous misinformation. They were not experts who studied all the data and could say with 100% certainty is was IMPOSSIBLE.

To this day no one knows 100% and unless more info comes out we will not know 100%. However the evidence is looking stronger for the lab leak.

Should I try to do a better job summarizing the data for people who don't have strong enough reading comprehension skills?

We should have stronger intertional agreements verifying biosecurity. It's scary what they can do in some of these labs.

It probably wasn't posted because it's still debatable, they're just saying it was a potential source, there is still no consensus. I think that's what the links you posted say too.

If it is true then it means we need international agreements for verifying biosecurity the way we do nuclear capabilities and the permitted inspections that foreign countries have. There have been leaks documented, although I am unsure of the consequences that were faced. There are a lot of labs around the world though.

Lab leak makes the most sense.

People were attacked for suggesting it.

When Trump said it was a possibility, people who hated Trump had to go the opposite on this topic to make him out to wrong.

In other words, a lot of people were duped by the media to call those considering lab leak as the source as crazy conspiracy theorists. They were also invested in attacking people that pushed lab leak theory as bad and wrong. If its proven it was from a lab leak in Wuhan, That it was made in the Wuhan coronavirus lab and leaked. (Even worse if its from that lab... and the NIH funds the lab.. oooopsiesss)

It makes them look like assholes... but they were assholes so who cares?

I read the articles. And that is why I am critical of it. Low confidence is low confidence and no ammount of mental gymnastics and tinfoilhattery changes that fact. The Wall Street Journal piece in particular was extraordinarily bad and really sloppy journalism.

There is nothing wrong about asking questions. But the questions you are asking are loaded, and seem to be built on trying to build towards a certain narrative, rather than one rooted in intellectual hoensty.

The premise of the thread sucks. A minority of scientists (not even virologists or epidemologists), are putting in Low Confidence that virus was leaked. While not providing further elaboration. And idiots are pouncing on it because they are desperate to prove their floundering narrative. Meanwhile the majority of scientists hold the position that the virus was most likely zoonotic, this includes primarily from researchers in RELEVANT fields, publishing papers demonstrating positive evidence of a likely zoonotic origin. That said, we also admit that we don't know the origin. And odds are, that at this point, we will likely never know.

Sadly, and that is how misinformation and misinterpretions spread so easily.

Why did China use more time to develop a less effective vaccine if they made the virus?
