Almost made a thread on this.

And to be honest about Colin Powell as he was the first Black US Secretary of the State, I never blame him for the Iraq war because he was told bad information himself. He was used as a tool and stooge to attempt to get wider support for the war. But make no mistake that his role in the Iraq war tarnished him big time, there's no doubt about that. That said, I actually do think he was a good person. I think part of the reason he bowed out of the Bush administration and left politics altogether instead of running for president as many people wanted him to do is that he knew he was wrong and didn't really deserve to hold that position.

That's just my guess, but I always got that impression hearing him speak after he left the administration. R.I.P Colin Powell🎖

@davillain-: Some e-mails between him and Condoleezza Rice were leaked where they shared frustrations about trying to counter the influence of Dick Cheney and the other hawks. So yeah, your impression seems to be correct.

I can respect a guy that actually learns from their mistakes. RIP.

A damn shame. Seemed like a standup dude, but I'm afraid his legacy will always wear the stain of the Bush administration. Not his fault; he and others were played like a fiddle and misled like the rest of us into war.

The misinformation/anti-vax community has been scraping at the bottom of the barrel for any bullshit excuse not to get their free shot, up to and including pretending it makes you magnetic. I'd bet my firstborn child they've already clung to this like a lifesaver in a hurricane.

After doing some yardwork yesterday I sat down and had a cold beer.

The day was quite beautiful, and my drink facilitated some deep thinking.

My wife walked by and asked "what are you doing." I said, "Nothing."

Now the reason I said "nothing" instead of telling her about my deep thinking is because she would then have asked, "What are you thinking about?"

At that point I would have had to explain the difference between men and woman and how men are deep thinkers on many and various topics about life. Now this would have lead to more and more questions. Luckily, she left me alone.

After another beer I pondered the age old question:

What is more painful, giving birth or getting kicked in the nuts?

Women always maintain that giving birth is way more painful, but how could they know?

Well, after another beer or two, and some more heavy deductive thinking, I have come up with the answer to that age old question.

Getting kicked in the nuts must be more painful than having a baby. Even though I obviously couldn't really know 100%, here is the reason for my conclusion:

A year or so after giving birth, a woman will often say, "It might be nice to have another child."

Even after many years I have never heard a man say, "You know what, I think I would like for someone to kick me in the nuts."

I rest my case.

Time for another beer.

You haven't been watching the right videos on Pornhub then obviously!!

Christ.

Trump is one of the most vile, repugnant people I’ve ever had the displeasure of encountering. I’ve seen some abominations of character in my time, but this person takes it to another level. He makes it a sticking point, almost a point of pride, to be as classless and insulting as possible. Intentionally. Especially punctuating his message with “Rest In Peace“, which is nothing but insulting after what he writes.

How can people even humor supporting such a piece of garbage?

You better believe you’ll be treated so “beautifully“ when you pass Donnie….the entire world will erupt in celebration at your death, just as they did when you showed what a loser you were in 2020.

Are you surprised? Trump is a literal cesspool of every bad human trait imaginable. But apparently he's 'just the right guy' to lead our country cause he 'tells it like it is!'

He feeds on controversy. The more comments like this he makes, the harder it makes for the media to ignore him. that is how he got to be president.

We should all try our best to ignore the guy.

Leaving Afghanistan was the best decision Biden did and the aftermath, well that's all on him. Should have planed to get the little people out first before the big people.

2020 was a different beast.

Republicans will have had four years of setting the table in the legislature to their liking so they can directly subvert and electoral defeat in the chamber. I don't think Trump would run otherwise. There will also be the compounding effect of Trump's rhetoric and his leveraging of Biden's missteps, of which he's taking every opportunity to leverage to his favor, and of which Biden is affording him plenty of material.

I hope to be proven wrong again in '24, but who honestly believes Trump won't be the GOP's frontrunner? He's essentially indicated he's running in every possible way aside formally. That he's even being considered after what he did after the election boggles my mind; I find it astounding so many would be willing to place a man back into the highest seat of a democratic government who's shown nothing but contempt for it, but here we are.

@MirkoS77: I don't think he can win a fair election. He is seen way too negatively by most of the population. He even lost against biden, that was a terrble candidate and probably got 90% of his vote from the anti trump crowd.

Even against Hillary that was a massively disliked candidate he lost the popular vote.

My fear of Trump coming back to power isn’t legitimately, though I do think that is a possibility if all the cards fall right.

He’s a professional salesman and conman, who is extremely effective at denigrating others to his advancement. If that doesn’t work, then he’ll cheat.

Seriously, it's amusing how Trump slings the accusation of RINO at liberty at others when the man doesn't hold one single conservative principle in his entire body and is the walking definition of what he accuses others of being. He's nothing but an opportunist dictated by narcissism, and would sell out conservatism the moment he viewed it as inconvenient to his overall goals.

It never ceases to amaze me how this man has taken so many people.

Been reflecting a lot on Colin Powell since his death. Americans tend to love their generals, and I'm no different; Powell seemed like a very charismatic, intelligent man throughout his career and did a lot of good. I admire him a lot, especially in the past decade or so when he owned up to his mistakes.

He also did a lot of bad. Of course we all know about going in front of the UN and lying, though many would argue he was given false information. But Powell has a long and busy career stretching all the way back to the early 60's and spanning many Republican administrations.

It's a good subject to debate the greater good, or if doing great good really does cancel out great bad.
