Not sure if I think that's the best move to make since she probably pissed off a lot of people within the US government.

http://www.cnn.com/2018/01/13/politics/chelsea-manning-democrat-senate-in-maryland/index.html

Chelsea Manning, the former Army intelligence analyst who spent several years in prison for leaking classified information, has filed to run as a Democratic candidate for Senate in Maryland.

Manning's filing was received January 11, according to Federal Election Commission records. Manning did not immediately return CNN's request for comment Saturday.Manning is one of four Democratic candidates who have filed to run for Senate in Maryland. Incumbent Democratic Sen. Ben Cardin, 74, has not yet announced he would seek a third term in the Senate. His campaign committee has nearly $2 million in cash on hand, according to the FEC.Mannin

... Why? What's the point? Why does everyone think they can become a politician these days? Fair enough if you want a job in politics run for city council or something like that but to run as a Senator from the get go just seems stupid to me. Also, isn't Sen. Ben Cardin really, really popular in Maryland?

Considering Manning's felony conviction and Dishonorable Discharge (President Obama commuted her sentence, not pardoned her like some people mistakenly believe), she may have some issues moving forward. Especially if she is asked how she can be trusted safeguarding classified information she would potentially have access to as a senator if elected.

Because they finally realize if they want things to change, they have to run against the old, hyper-religious, white, male nutbags.

This is a terrible idea. The changes of a win are virtually nil.

That would be a sound argument if the incumbent for that Senate seat wasn't a very popular Democrat.

I am well aware that you were simply spewing groundless bile at those you perceive to be a subclass. Grade school civics addresses that as well.

It was spoken in a general sense.

And Democrats can be old, hyper-religious, white, male nutbags as well.

Holy turbo facepalm Batman.

Pleb is a slur for the subordinate class. Usually used when one fails to know their place. You know, like running for office deemed above their station.

Oh, I see your issue now, my apologies. Probably a poor choice of word I didn't mean it to be taken literally. Meant it more as the common people in a general sense - the outdated definition and not the slur. I have edited my earlier post to avoid future confusion.

Maybe avoid using slurs exactly as they are intended then? I mean heck we are even talking about running for the senate. This is akin to looking around and saying "What sorry? I only called the uppity African American that because it is Spanish for black..."

*edit to add* Heck you even doubled down by pointing out that there was a respectable, proper patrician securing the office.

At first I was like "Oh brother, here we go again..."

But then I thought: better a white, privileged, transsexual traitor that was dumb enough to get caught than a bigoted, white, male, religious, right-wing zealot.

amirite?!?!? huh!?

Anyone who think she is a traitor....get a fucking clue you clowns. She exposed WAR CRIMES BEING COMMITTED BY OUR GOVERNMENT, she had a moral obligation to inform the public.

**** yeah I'm glad she is running, I support her 100%, and hope she wins, and throws it right back in the faces of the disgusting people who are against her amazing act of patriotism that she put her own life on the line to do.

Out of the hundreds of thousands of documents Manning sent to WikiLeaks, only a fraction of them exposed wrongdoing. We can't even assume that she vetted everything she gave them (she's only one person), and even if she had time to read all of it, a private probably isn't going to know the full consequences of what they were releasing.

At least Snowden kept his leaks exclusive to the NSA domestic surveillance, Manning went all out and could have gotten people killed.

Guess this person is not done yet with betraying America.

A shame a pardon was done before Obama went out of office.

Probably because people are fed up of the Democratic Party's crap. Hillary Clinton was the last straw. And Benjamin Cardin has an approval rating of 53% from what I could see (disapproval of 21%). It isnt bad, but it is also not Bernie Sanders or John Hoeven.

A true patriot serving the people by exposing war crimes by our government vs a racist asshole who severely abused his power, breaking the law, and destroyed families? Yeah, thats a no brainer. **** Arpaio, he can die of a brain hemorrhage

Really? That's your answer to why you deny transgender people? just because you can? What does it matter to you if they have changed their gender (and in this case legal name)?

@drlostrib: I don't "deny" them anything. They're free to think and live as they wish.
