It is said the only guarantees In life are death and taxes. Ill add a third, death, taxes and Democrats shooting themselves in the foot.

I dont know why Republicans set landmines for democrats, they seem good at doing that on their own. Morons. Democrats will never work together as long as their is factions in that party.

It seems like the likelihood of this passing is very low. This kind of the democrats only chance to do this (pass a huge bill that tackles both climate change and many of the country's other problems), but President Joe Manchin is going to let it slip through their fingers and Republicans will take power again in the House and Senate, regardless of whether this bill passes or not.

Yeah, because climate change is a serious problem, totally worth sacrificing the economy, and raising taxes on everyone for.

@Serraph105: Yeah Manchin and Sinema need to drop the act and come back into the fold; GOP has no interest in bipartisanship, this is about getting shit done and that's never going to happen with an entire party acting as obstructionists.

GOP is a dead party that wants stagnation and regression, you don't work with those kinds of people, you work against them.

There's a lot of money and jobs in it. Don't need to sacrifice the economy to make some needed changes, hell it could even boost the economy.

Coal industry is dying, oil is going to run out. We need to pre-empt this.

There's certainly a lot of money to be made in it. If you think multi billion dollar corporations are in it for saving the planet and not using that to garner support as they rake in billions more, then you're deluding yourself. There are no "needed changes" being promoted, just more regulations, more taxes, neither of which help the people.

The fact so many environmentalist are against nuclear is baffling to me. In 2024. California has a nuclear plant that produces more power than every single one of those unsightly solar and wind farms, and they will close the plant down in 2024 in order to blight the landscape of the country's most beautiful state with more hunks of metal and glass.

This is reality given our inability to rid ourselves of the filibuster. Everyone tries to cram stuff into reconciliation and hope it passes the 'budget requirements' for being included. Get rid of the filibuster and we won't need to have these reconciliation fights so often.

Agreed, but in general if we had the ability to pass on simple majorities, people like Manchin and Sinema would be persuadable on many issues if dealt with individually, rather than creating monolithic packages that require reconciliation to pass.

We can have our cake and eat it too.

We can get rich while saving the planet. There's no shame in that.

As for "needed changes", if you think humanity is going to do what is best for itself and the planet simply on its own, you're delusional. We need regulations to ensure people do the right thing, we need taxes to fund doing the right thing.

Or we can do away with the EPA and other regulatory agencies we fund with our taxes. That'd be great. Then we can just dump our garbage wherever and set our rivers on fire.

Yeah I am totally in favor of nuclear power. Safe, efficient, provides TONS of power, and a major job creator.

I used to live by that one nuclear power planet (Diablo Canyon) down in San Luis Obispo, a lot of people worked there. It wasn't unsightly, either, they had it nestled up there next to the ocean hidden away. Outside of the security and the fence, you wouldn't even know it was sitting there next to a sleepy little ocean-side town.

Anyway, I think the reason a lot of environmentalists are against nuclear power is because they bought into the propaganda. They think they're going to explode, or they don't like the nuclear waste issue, or they think a step towards nuclear is a step away from their precious "green" energy.

No one wants to split the difference these days, meet half way....it's either their way or the highway. Environmentalists need to swallow their pride and be pro-nuclear.

Eh. To be frank I’m more worries about the debt ceiling. If we default, then social security and other government programs will get slashed/eliminated. The Minority senate leader has already stated the entire GOP will be voting no on the “measure”.

@outworld222: Sabotage is all they have. But no, social security will not be eliminated. Shutdowns have happened before and SS is still here.

The GOP needs to be eliminated and label a terrorist group at this point.
