"Equal Time".
Is he talking about the fairness doctrine? If so that makes no sense.
The president also seemed to be inferring that the equal time provision would apply to commentaries, like Jimmy Kimmel's monologues on health care. It is unclear how this would fall under equal time, since the rule is usually invoked when a candidate appears on the program or is granted some other form of free air time.
The Post also notes that under the Fairness Doctrine broadcasters had to let people know if they were under personal attack in a program and give them a chance to respond. In 1987, President Reagan signed an executive order revoking the doctrine, leading to an explosion of partisan TV and radio programs.
Is he just talking about coverage? Maybe if nearly every single Conservative Based comedy show didn't flop. Capitalism Don', Capitalism. Perhaps start with making a Conservative Comedy show that people actually want to watch?
It's funny because the people who cry the hardest about biased media are the same people who don't want things like the Fairness Doctrine to come back. Because they expect equal treatment on channels they don't like, but at the same time they also want to keep their echo chambers/indoctrination mediums running at 100% efficiency.
also great seeing these people preach about how the Free Market/Capitalism can solve every single problem you throw at it (it's best for most things, obviously, but there are a few places where it needs to be dialed back.
Except when it comes to the media. Then it's all about how they put too much emphasis on clickbaiting people and making money through oversensationalism.
OMFG CAPITALISM FUCKING SUCKS NOW.
Yeah, that's why NPR, PBS and BBC are some of the better places to get less sensationalized news. They don't rely so heavily on a profit motive like Fox/CNN or MSNBC.
