Ouch.

Half of voters say Trump is racist: poll

https://thehill.com/homenews/administration/455364-half-of-voters-say-trump-is-racist-poll

Half of American voters in a new poll say they consider President Trump to be racist, despite the president maintaining he is the "least racist person anywhere in the world."

The Quinnipiac University poll released Tuesday found that 51 percent of American voters said "yes" when asked if they thought Trump was racist, while 45 percent said "no."

Not exactly surprising though.

Polls aren't facts, hurr-dur. Only sampled 1306 people, they don't speak for the whole country /s

Not surprised that men find him less racist than the other groups.

People seriously answer their phones and take surveys?

Honestly the interesting thing about this poll is only that you can make racist comments without being considered a racist. And a lot of people apparently do.

Not at all. Racists rarely consider themselves racist. They merely condone such language with eupemisms like, "We're just telling it like it is."

I don't much care for either of those fellows but thanks for the fallacy anyway.

I would be interested regardless though, can you point me to where either has said something equivalent to statements from the last few weeks of rat-infested districts or telling minority colleagues to go back to their country?

Oh boy more polls that can be skewed however you need to results to go. Hell someone else could do the pole and show the exact opposite. All polls can be and usually are biased in some way. Just like the liberals bitching about programs having bias. It is just a human thing to do.

BTW polls can be wrong. Just ask Hillary what she things about polls. Did this poll even show the margin or error? Because that could mean they don't find him raciest. Polls seriously are just shit anymore.

PS I would say the same thing if a poll showed Trump not to be raciest. Polls are just shit because of bias that we have in the world today.

This came up in the Sandmann dismissal thread, in a way. One of the statements the judge ruled on pretty much amounted to that exact logic for declaring it opinion. So, uh, apparently it's legally valid?

I really didn't want to turn this into an education lesson. But fine,

https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/howcan-a-poll-of-only-100/

How can a poll of only 1,004 Americans represent 260 million people with only a 3 percent margin of error?

Andrew Gelman, a professor in the departments of statistics and political science at Columbia University, explains.

A "3 percent margin of error" means that there is a 95 percent chance that the survey result will be within 3 percent of the population value. To put it another way, you would expect to see a less than 3 percent difference between the proportion of people who say "yes" to the survey question and the proportion of people in the population who would say "yes" if asked.

How is it that a survey of only 1,000 people can reach this level of accuracy? You must first assume that the survey respondents have been sampled at random from the population, meaning that people are selected one at a time, with all persons in the U.S. being equally likely to be picked at each point. For most polls, this is approximated by calling phone numbers generated randomly by computer.

The margin of error depends inversely on the square root of the sample size. That is, a sample of 250 will give you a 6 percent margin of error and a sample size of 100 will give you a 10 percent margin of error. A 10 percent margin of error is not so useful. It would give you vague claims such as, "The proportion of Americans who support the death penalty is somewhere between 60 percent and 80 percent." Pollsters thus spend the money to get a reasonably large sample. In the other direction, by surveying 4,000 people, you can get the margin of error down to 1.5 percent. This sounds appealingly precise (for example, "The proportion is between 68.5 percent and 71.5 percent"), but it is generally a waste of time because public opinion varies enough from day to day that it is meaningless to attempt too precise an estimate. Indeed, to do so would be like getting on a scale in the morning and measuring your weight as 173.26 pounds.

The margin of error is a mathematical abstraction, and there are a number of reasons why actual errors in surveys are larger. Even with random sampling, people in the population have unequal probabilities of inclusion in the survey. For instance, if you don't have a telephone, you won't be in the survey, but if you have two phone lines, you have two chances to be included. In addition, women, whites, older people and college-educated people are more likely to participate in surveys. Polling organizations correct for these nonresponse biases by adjusting the sample to match the population, but such adjustments can never be perfect because they only correct for known biases. For example, "surly people" are less likely to respond to a survey, but we don't know how many surly people are in the population or how this would bias polling results.

Finally, the 3 percent margin of error is an understatement because opinions change. On January 3, 2004, the Gallup poll

Any more questions, students?

Many of the polls you see used by news sites or others have a sample size almost as "small". Even internal pollsters who heavily depend on this data and never make it public.

Several 2016 polls taken in Nov. had similar sample sizes, and ended up highly accurate on average. 1.2% Average Error vs. Final Results.

Thats all stupid. You should know better.

You simply cannot equate such a low number to "america". Its unacceptable. Maybe our media would be doing better work--real journalism--if they werent being so lazy with these polls. Not only are they lazy but the simple fact is that its dishonest reporting to generalize a number like that, as america, to the public. Its factually a false statement to do so.

I'm well aware of this. It reminds me of this thing I saw where they had about 30 people take a wild guess at how many gumballs were in a machine, and the guesses were then averaged. It turned out their guesses combined (and divided by, obv) brought them very close to the actual total of gumballs in the machine. So yes, I can see how a small sample can represent a bigger picture and provide something somewhat close to the truth.

However, I think it's also a bit of a stretch to say "51% of Voters Say Trump is Racist". This is over-generalization in my book, as nothing backs it up factually. Additionally, I'm curious as to where the survey was conducted. Maybe it was throughout the whole US, but I am intrigued.

'Tis all.

'Tis all.

It's an estimation with a potential 3.4%~ error. That's all.

Here is the methodology, https://poll.qu.edu/images/polling/us/us07302019_demos_uxug21.pdf/

That's not too surprising. I was pretty sure at least half of all people were dumb anyway.

Yes, I get that. I am fine with the point that 47.6-54.4% of voters should find Trump "racist," based on your article.

The two things I'm skeptical about:

-Possible bias in who was surveyed

-The simple phrase that 51% of voters find him racist. While the statistic appears to be around there, I find it weird to report that without surveying MANY more.

These reasons are why I worry about things being misportrayed by left-wing outlets.

I think this is just my personal opinion. I see what you're saying, statistically, though ;)

How about not commenting on statistics and polls if you have no idea how they works?

But Trump said he's the least racist person IN THE WORLD. Pack it up libs that's that, confirmed not racist.

Compare Trump's comments to Clinton's and Biden's and we will see who is racists.

I don't much care for either of those fellows but thanks for the fallacy anyway.

I would be interested regardless though, can you point me to where either has said something equivalent to statements from the last few weeks of rat-infested districts or telling minority colleagues to go back to their country?

On the rat infested comment he was correct. PBS did a story on it, the former mayor of Baltimore is on video saying she can smell the rats. As far as telling some one to go back to their country get the exact quote. He told them to go back to the country they came from and straighten them out then come back and tell how to do it. Of course every quote that questions a Liberal is raciest. You can't compete with ideas so you play the race card. It has been played so much it doesn't mean anything anymore.

Cities in general are rat infested, aren't they? Excellent conditions for rats to survive.

When Trump says he's the least racist person in the world, what scale is he using? If he's a 1, who the hell is a 5? Fucking yikes!

1. But Red areas are worse. Why not bring those up? Why attack an American city at all as President? Why not offer help? Why just insult? He is President isn't this also his fault?

Hellholes mostly Red

The least educated states are, from 46th to 50th: Alabama, Arkansas, Louisiana, West Virginia and Mississippi.

Highest poverty rates (46th to 50th): Kentucky, West Virginia, New Mexico, Louisiana, Mississippi.

Most dangerous (46th to 50th): Alabama, Arkansas, Mississippi, Louisiana, New Mexico.

Highest share of people on food stamps in 2017 (46th to 50th): Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, West Virginia, New Mexico.

Most dependent on federal aid — i.e., “socialism” (46th to 50th): Kentucky, Arizona, New Mexico, Louisiana, Mississippi.

Most polluted (46th to 50th): Alabama, Tennessee, Kentucky, Ohio, Indiana.

Most people lacking health insurance (46th to 50th): Florida, Georgia, Alaska, Oklahoma, Texas.

2. Three of them were American born, what country do they go back to? Also why not tell Whites to go back and then return?

"You can't compete with ideas so you play the race card. It has been played so much it doesn't mean anything anymore."

That's why 51% disagree with you. Oh and what do you mean can't compete on ideas, the GOP loses on Healthcare, Guns, Abortion, Climate Change, Net Neutrality, Taxes, Tariffs, etc. going by most polls. 2018 exit polls on issues and voting proved this with actual voting results (biggest voter gap in history).

I mean the only definitive "idea" they win on is Economy (only at the moment), and that's just a continuation of Obama's in terms of performance rather than a real GOP idea.

The left started calling Trump a environmental racist... What the hell does that even mean?

The left needs to chill with some of these labels
