Do you think the "reinvention of the storybook" will be a hit? It just might be. Some of us older gamers have kids after all. I think Sony may be tapping into something good here :) Thoughts?

No. If I had a child I would want them to read a book, not play a video game.. And AR really hasn't worked with the Eye before.. Eyepet and Eye of Judgement were both incredibly janky. That said, dumb ideas can become incredibly successful, so who knows.. And (exclusive?) J.K. Rowling content can't hurt bringing in people that otherwise may not be interested.

J.K. Rowling is a terrible author so that kills any interest that may have existed for this project.

I honestly don't see the point in this wonderbook, I have thought hard about it but I still don't see who this could possibly be geared towards and it seems like too much equipment to get going. PS3, PSeye, PS move, and now a PS book?

I think it would work well with MR people and diehard fans cause I mean if they made a book for Avatar: TLA where you could waterbend, earthbend, firebend, and airbend heck I would get it right away.

The Wonderbook idea itself is great for kids. The idea is sound, Sony is just not really up on supporting these kinds of things after they launch. Wonderbook needs regular new content in order to be successful. Sony has been terrible at keeping the PSN store updated with new content. The wonderbook needs a dependable weekly streem of content for it to be successful and catch on.

It will fail because Sony will launch it and forget about it. It will leave people wondering when new content will be arriving for their book.

As long as Rowling suddenly makes characters Gay or does other things to piss off parent groups and challenge the closed-minded pwomps out there, I'll enjoy watching the fall-out... But I agree with the Lion King Guy; Anything with Move, NO. I'd rather the kids read an actual BOOK, as well.

My nephew got the stupid Move controller set-up for Xmas last year, and it sits unused after about a week. His Granny is incredulous as to why - "But, I thought the Wii was so much FUN?"

Well, yeah... They actually made a few titles that WORKED for that system which were fun to play, Gran'...

To all the people who posted "You Gotta Give It (Move) Some TIME..."

Has it been out long enough for you to admit it's a failure and that Sony had no real intention of supporting it in any meaningful sense NOW?

:?

Even "Sorcery" sucks carpet lint, and that was the one great Hope I had. "Tiger Woods" doesn't even really capitalize on it... The whole system is a blood clot, and each successive crap-fest game that comes out for it only makes me shake my head harder in disbelief...

Hmm you are right about one thing. If this is to catch on Sony needs to support it. I don't think it could take the place of a paper book, but it could be an interesting option. My little girl loves flipping through pages on the iPad. She loves interative story book apps. Give her a few more years and this Wonder Book could be interesting for her. I think Sony does have something here. Now the question is whether they'll make the right moves. The idea is good. The target audience is good. Let's see if Sony does a good job in building it up :)

This'll be good if it's integrated into classrooms. After all, most teachers are so stuck in the old way of teaching that kids, even young kids are incredibly bored. Why not integrate techology into class, especially technology that kids grow up with.

The only thing that seemed confusing was how it actually is used as a reading tool. I'm all for the interactivity of it, I just hope it has actual reading integrated into as well. Though, with the proper support that probably won't be an issue. What will be an issue is parents complaining their kids are being exposed to HP in schools, because we all know magic is real and is the end of humanity itself.

I just hope Sony supports it, as the Vita is pretty much useless at the moment and nothing overly interesting is being released on it that can't be purchased on consoles.

Basically, the Wonderbook is cool if used correctly, especially if teachers are willing to learn it, as nobody wants to sit there and listen to a teacher ramble on about something (hopefully this technology will go beyond books and integrate all sorts of different topics for elementary school, because it seems like it can be a lot more interesting than a Smart Board).

Well, I certainly would have found it boring as a kid. I'm not seeing this catch on at all, there are far more interesting things for kids to play.

regardless of if its any good or not, its audience isn't the type that typically pays attention to E3.

Now if the wonderbook involved porn, it would be the greatest selling game of all time.

Regarding it as a teaching tool is possible but not worth it. I dunno how the schools are doing where you are but here in California they are doing horrible. Technology has not helped as a whole either. Most classrooms have whatever that touchscreen board is called "Prometheian board"? The majority of classroom time is spent by the teacher trying to figure out how to get it to work right. And forget it if the kids have laptops as well and try to synch it up to the main computer hooked up to the board. No wonder our district is underperforming and in debt laying off good teachers, all money went towards "better technology for education".

Sorry for rant but I've seen a lot of teachers and what technology is used does not determine how good they are or how much the students learn.

I cannot see my daughter using it when there are so many great interactive books available on something like the iPad. It seems like time that would have been better spent talking about games.

interested in this, I liked a lot the animated books when I was younger and the whole "book" (as it can be used with different stories/universes, not just the Rowling one) concept can be used in a variety of ways for mixing storytelling and gaming fun

I think they'll make back whatever they spent developing it with that Harry Potter thing and then we'll never hear about it again.

For the crowd it is actually aimed towards (little kids), I think it will do well. Will it sell well to us gamers? hell no, but then again, it isn't aimed at us gamers.

What I find surprising is that Sony didn't choose to make an improve Eye camera before releasing something like this. MS will surely develop a competitor that uses Kinect if Wonderbook turns out to be successful.

Not without an HD camera. The current eye's image is too poor and grainy for this, I think.

Video games essentially already are reinventions of storybooks. This seems pretty pointless to me.
