Notice that they said Sony's favor not the PS3. Look at Square's show, it had almost all PSP titles about 6-7. 3 of which were just announced. DS has like 2. Squareenix is pretty much a handheld game developer. That's their biggest market in Japan. So saying they lied is not true. The Squareenix party was pretty much a PSP event.
In my experience, it seems like Square-Enix makes you buy one of their products to actually get access to demos. I doubt it will be a downloadable demo, but I could be wrong.
