will the final fantasy series ever end?

excluding any remakes will the final fantasy series ever end?? there has been 13 games which is loads for the 1 game or will it just follow along side mario

not that i want it to end or anything and 13 looks very impressive but 13 is a LOT of games. its been around since the NES do you think it will ever end?

You hardly see the same party members (characters) and the story is always different. I don't see why it should end.

its a different story and setting so really it ends after every one with the exception of ff7 and ff10 spinoffs. but it better not end

If they took out Final then the game wouldn't sell as much. Any game Square-Enix make with the name Final Fantasy will sell million(s).

By then 'interactive' games will be like the matrix.... graphics have come such a long way lol.

Squaresoft, back before FF was ever released, was a company about to go out of business and having to file bankruptcy because their games were not selling well (only game some might remember is Rad Racer for the NES, the one that came with 3D glasses, it was a Square game before FF). Sakaguchi, the creator of FF, was gonna make Final Fantasy as his last game before he retired. The game was a success, so he stayed on. If the game was a failure, Square would have probably ended at that time as well. The Final has nothing to do with the story of each game or anything.

As for ending the FF series, I highly doubt it anytime soon. The reason is simple, money. FFX and XII both sold 1.5-2mil copies in their first week in Japan, and both sold a total of about 1-2 mil in the US. The games make a ton of money, and as long as they do, Squenix has no reason to stop, unless they go out of business, as others have said. I, for one, hope they never quit making them. I hope when I'm 90 years old I will be anxiously awaiting the arrival of FF XXX or XL, whichever it may be (along with my new walker, teeth and Viagra...or more likely at that age, the purchase of my headstone to be paid off).

Final Fantasy games are very good. I feel like they could do with an update, though, and not in the FF XII MMORPG way. I don't imagine them not being made, since they make so much money and are SE's core franchise (along with DQ).

In a perfect world, FF games would regard gamer's time as precious, and eliminate most of the filler. The combat would be more strategic and require unique strategies to win. The story would be told through a combination of cutscenes and in-game storytelling, and you would be allowed to make decisions which allow you to play a role (ie be evil, be good, let x live or die). Right now the genre as a whole and the FF series in specific need an update.

final fantasy is more of a brand than a game series.

they could just replace FF with "Square RPG" and it would mean the same thing.

My response to you was only the first paragraph and I was just explaining the name. The fact that it had to do with Square's finances is a coincidence to my second paragraph. The second paragraph had nothing to do with you and was directed at the thread topic as to why I don't think FF will ever end. I don't see how my post was offensive towards your post, and was just throwing out info in case someone DID care about why it's called what it is. Anyway, here's to Fantasy XIV. :P
