i turned to the beijing olympics in HD and i noticed it looked alot better than my ps3 running a blu ray movie in 1080p through HDMI. Whats the deal? are my settings not right? i've seen blu ray look incredible at best buy.

this may be a random guess but i had to switch my ps3 only to 1080p in the display settings because it always went back down to 720p or 480p ... u can try that unless you already have.

Mess with the picture in the HDMI mode for your TV. It might have less desirable settings than your cable mode. The Olympics do look awesome though, NBC is one of the best looking channels on my tv.

The audio/video forum on here is pretty decent for help on these issues...but either way knowing the type of TV/specs you're dealing with would help. As for HDMI cables you're running, it shouldn't matter what type they are besides ensuring they're 1.3. Other than that, the brand doesn't really matter unless you're using more than 10+ feet of HDMI cable.

Do you have RGB Full Range and Super White on? Also if the movie was not filmed in HD, it won't look as good as something that was. What movie was it?

Might be the movies, some movies just don't look that much better on Blu-ray than on DVD, Die Hard for example. Haven't watched any of the movies you mentionen on Blu-ray, though Kingdom of Heaven should have good picture according to highdefdigest.com. Try renting Casino Royale, Batman Begins or Apocalypto, they all look really good on my 1080p TV.
