I think there really tough like 2 days after i got mine i had just the ps3 in the box (without all the other stuff to hold it in good) and and the bottom of the box gave out right at the top of my stairs and fell down all 14 stairs and bounced off like every other one and i for sure htought it was broken but i went and tried it and nothing wrong with it(no cracks no weird noises nuthing at all) . So to me thats tough cause if i dropped my 360 like 6 inches i would thing it would break.

Can't say I believe that story 100%, but speaking solely on what "people say":

The 2% has to come from somewhere, no?

I've had my PS3 for over a year. Other then an almost full hard drive it's perfect. My Wii over heated in 3 months. It works fine now, but lets not talk about the 360's life span.

Some people feel the need to make up "ps3 failure" because they can't deal with the 360's well known and documented lemon status.

If you want to make such statements and be taken seriously, get some proof, not "everyone at my school" or "everyone on xbox live". Of course everyone on xbox live would say that...they have the same complex......

The 360 is the only console I know off that has dedicated threads in lots of forums along the lines of..."My xbox360 is broken what do i do now" .... "How do I use my extended warranty"

I never hear anyone talk about the PS3 on XBL, either. Most of the time people are too busy getting down to have casual watercooler conversation about other consoles.

I wish i could say the same thing about my ps1, it came a time that the only way my brother and I could play it was by putting it upside down. My ps2 finally gave out 2 but none of this stopped me from gettin a ps3 i just hope i have better luck.

I can only imagine what you felt as you watched it bounce down the stairs. Honestly, I think I would cry. I haven't cried in years, but if I saw my ps3 bounce down the stairs, it would break the dry spell.

Well, all I can say is you guys are luckier than I am. My PS3 recently died for no apparent reason. I was just playing Portal in the Orange Box, and the system froze up as I was going from one test chamber to another. When I turned it off & back on, it wouldn't recognize PS3 discs anymore. For the next few days, it would still recognize DVDs, CDs, PS1 & PS2 games, but then it stopped recognizing anything I put in the drive. :( Tried restoring the system, but it didn't help. I sent an email to SCEA tech support, and am currently waiting to hear back from them. :(

I treat my PS3 like its going to break, But that is probably do to the fact this its really shiney.

The only thing I would think that would break would be the Blu-ray/DVD drive, It just sounds really cheap like when I put a disc in and it first starts to read it it makes a like of sound that something cheap would make.

Most people who say they break easily are... you know... and should know better, because their consoles have a 33% out-of-the-box failure rate.

LMAO!

if it has a PS stamped on it, its built like a tank.

ps1: gone through mad hours of FF7/8, tekken1/2/3, streetfighter alpha 3, rival schools, MGS1, tetris; a dropkick, a ~3ft fall from a table, horrible experiment of how nailpolish remover isnt a good cleaning agent. still works.

PS2: never actually abused this thing except for hours and hours of MGS2 and 3, DMC 1 and 3, onimusha 1/2/3, some movies, 100hr+ FFx, resident evil 2 and 4 and code veronica, taking it apart for its bi-annual cleaning and de-dusting. still on my table next to my ps3. still use it to play beatmania DXii (US)

PSP: hours upon hours of music and movies, dropped like a million tyms, kicked once, played it in the rain a few tyms, H****ed, bricked once, fixed it, still use it as a mp3 media player and currently on disgaea: AOD.

PS3: only had it for 5 months and not a problem. nothing really to put it to the test until mgs4 comes out. if anything, i bet can strap this thing on my chest, have a 30-06 (thirty ought 6) bullet shot at me, take it off, and still play guitar hero 3 on it.

sony products are just made to last bro. cant say much for...

Its possible that some people just don't take care of their PS3, mainly: Intentionally trying to destroy it.

The PS3 is a very reliable console. It's nice to know that if I drop it down the stairs at home that it has a good chance of surviving. I'm also fairly sure that my 360 would explode on impact. I think the Wii might be able to take some pretty good drops due to it's compact size and ver few exterior parts that could break off. Just the Gamecube and SD slot covers, lol!

PS3 does break easily. It'll break like a second after the warranty expires so you'll have to pay $149.00 so they can sell you a refurbished and possibly defective console that only comes with a 3 months warranty. Just about every personI know with a PS3 has said they had to send their PS3 back. I paid 400 bucks for a year of seldom play. PS3 is garbage.

I don't think they break easily. The more you play the faster it breaks. Just like, guns don't kill people, people kill people.

I've had mine for about a year now and not a single issue with it.
