You mean for acelerating and braking? i don't know anyone that plays with R2/L2. Those buttons are for shifts.

I'm comfortable with either setup. I just can't stand using the right analog for gas and brake.

Good question. I usually don't care. All of them are fine for me except L2. If I had to pick one I would say X but I used Square a lot for Chocobo racing on PS1.

L2/R2 because you have fingers on both buttons at the same time, but sometimes finger slips off the l2 or r2button when you keep it pushed for a long time lol (finger gets wet lol)

I like the shoulder buttons for racing games. It feels really awkward for me to hold the x button for racing games.

Depends, If the game supports it I use the right joystick to accelerate & reverse, if not I'll use either ones mentioned.

Personally, it is a toss up for me, but I think shoulder buttons have more advantages. The biggest disadvantage to the shoulder buttons is I've found it makes my hands a lot more sore after a lot of racing, opposed to the X button. However, using shoulder buttons works a little better and I feel you have more control over the game than with the X button.

I've gotten use to L2 and R2. They allow you to apply pressure, whereas X and Square don't.

L2/R2 for me. I use to play using x for acceleration, but I got use to R2 and can't go back. using x now annoys the hell out of me.

I like using the back buttons on the 360 controller, but not the DualShock 3

Not really sure why they changed L2/R2 from the DualShock 2

i hate the 360 scheme model developers r using for DS3. L2/R2 r stupid for turbo in football/basketball games. R2 to fire is odd but it's not bad in driving but i still take the traditional X for gas Square for brake

I only race with a racing wheel these days but back in the day I always used the triggers. After developers gave gamers the option to use L2 and R2 for racing, I never went back to X and Square lol.

Yes X and Square are pressure sensitive. Though it's hard to apply the right amount of pressure on them since the range is so small. I could see how the L2 and R2 buttons would be easier to get to the desired point.

I'll always use X and Square to break though.

I would like a L2/X set up, because i like to get on the gas right away, but like to ease on the breaks and thats what those back buttons are good for ;)

L1,L2,R1 and R2 over face buttons anyday. But my favorite is left analogue for steering, right for accelerating and braking and either a L or R button for handbrake.

I usually go with the default. But I find with PS3's controller, R2/L2 do kind of feel like "finger gas peddles". But it's rare for me to change the control layout for a racing game. Unless it's really awkward.
