Then what is the point of Blu-ray if you can watch DVD in 1080p:?-Sniper99-
stop me if i'm wrong, but it wont upscale copy protected dvd's. i put in supermsn returns to check and it looked so patchy and grainy it was horrible. just aswel that film is pantsVampiraJen
I dont really like the upscalling it makes the PS1/PS2gameslookblurry on my HDTV and when i play a game with proggressive scan its ultra jaggy i might just trade in all my PS2 games because they look like crap on a 46inch sony braviaHDTV so fari only can stand the next gen games graphics which looks really beautiful in 720p, like FIGHT NIGHT ROUND 3
oh and the DVD do look a bitblurry in upscale they need a patch to some how the option to have sharpness back like the old PS2. It might make itlook a bitbetter so i dont need totrade in my DVD movies and start buying Blu Ray Movies but imdiffentlygetting 300 ifitcomes out for blue ray
they need a patch for anti aniliasing the PS2 GAMESto 8x on the edges to1080p even an emulater could do that so itcould get rid ofthe blurrynessfor sure.

Because upscaling a normal DVD does not addthe extra detail that Blu-Ray offers.
Yep, with 1.80 it upscales PS, PS2 games and DVDs to 1080p.EnzoLake
There is also a feature on the PS3 that smooths PS\PS2 games graphics resulting inmuchhigher image quality.
In my opinion... the upscaling is just okay on the PS3. What most people don't realize is that displaysprocessorsthat (have to) upscale as well. To get good upscaling, you need a good video processors that costs about $2K. The PS3 does a good job though compared to most TV's... especially when you consider that it is just one of many many features.
And blu-ray blows away upscaled DVD's in a big way in my opinion.

That blurry effect is more from the "smoothing" than from the upscaling. Turn off smoothing, but leave upscaling on, and it removes all the jaggyness without much noticeable blur at all. I think the PS1 and PS2 games, in general, look a LOT better with upscaling on. But the blur when smoothing is turned on is pretty bad with 3 out 4 of the ones I own, so I leave that particular feature off.
Both DVD movies and PS/PS2 games do look much better with upscaling on; if you own 2 copies of one and can put one in the older player and the other in the PS3 with upscaling on, do it and toggle your TV back and forth between displaying each. It's a huge difference.
I actually can't stomach playing my PS2 games on the PS2 itself any more now that I've gotten used to the enhanced appearance that the PS3 gives.
