I need some help. I am trying to put movies on my nephew'sPSP and it says that AVI files are supported. But when I open up the file on the PSP it says that it cannot play the file because it is unsupported. Why is this?

The only AVI support the PSP has is for the super-obscure "motion JPEG" format; almost nothing encodes in this format.

The PSP (like most portable movie players) only supports mp4. The mp4 also must be in a specific resolution and bitrate or it won't be playable. Since most videos don't use this format you must use an encoder.
