I tried to play the PS3 via HDMI to DVI on my Acer AL1916W but then read about HDCP and then found out my monitor wouldnt work with my PS3.

So I went out and got myself a HDCP monitor. A Dell 207WFP http://www.amazon.com/207WFP-20-1-inch-Aspect-Panel-Monitor/dp/B000LZARRU

So when I plug my HDMI to my PS3, and my DVI into my Monitor, I select digital input for my monitor, change the settings on my ps3 to output via HDMI, nothing happens.

Please help as I can not stand my 19" Piece of Sh*t Sears TV..

Disconnect the PS3 from the TV and from "Standby" (red light) hold the power button down for 5 sec.

Yep, should work. BTW, how is that monitor? I am thinking of getting it myself for PS3.

I really like it for PC gaming.. I really want to play my ps3 in HD though. Really fast response time, nice picture, cheap price.

Yeah, the monitor may be the issue.  I have a Sceptre 22" with HDMI and DVI w/HDCP, had no problems.  Break out the PS3 manual for tips, just in case.

It could also be your cable. I have the same setup, instead with a different monitor. I use dvi-d cable and use a dvi to hdmi adapter.

Could be, After school today, I shall go get a DVI To HDMI Adpater, so my Monitor has a HDMI plug, then use my friends HDMI cord, to test. If it doest work Dell lied that this monitor is HDCP.

I just realized something.  You said you used an HDMI to DVI cable to connect to your monitor and selected digital input.  If your monitor has an HDMI port then that would be the digital input.  You need to select the DVI source on your monitor if you're using that cable.

o yea make sure you select through your monitor dvi...though if nothing else is hooked up to it...it should automatically look for the first signal it picks up

Damnit! I set it up and exact same problem, only works in 480p, I guess its still better then 4:3 and 480i. Hey at least I got a newer monitor thats not dusty!, at no fee to me.

Its still alot better then my old tv, I guess i can use this until I can save up for an ultrasharp, or even a costco brand HDTV.

Thanks for all your help.

Maybe you you have to manually res select the monitor?
