Just about everywhere the system is out of stock, I don't know if this is due to bad handling of anticipation of FF13+GOW3 or they simply can't meet demand.

Other merchants on amazon are selling the 120Gb for 369.00 US, crazy. Can't tell if this is a good or bad thing for Sony, loss of a customer at any time.

I went to go trade in my Xbox 360 and all of the games especially since they have the extra 50% deal plus the 10% edge card and they didn't have any PS3's. I was bummed. I was surprised about the shortage, I guess it is a combination of all the huge releases FF, God of War, MW 2, Uncharted, and MAG, plus Sony still hasn't recovered form Christmas. Anyways, I have to wait...I wanted to finally play Killzone 2 and Uncharted 2! They told me maybe the end of the week they would get some in. I also read online that Sony might be releasing a new SKU.

Yep, everywhere even when I looked up on Gamestop it was really spotty which locations had them in stock. All the online retailers are out of the 120 and 250gb versions(amazon, newegg, and buy.com). I really think it was just Sony being conservative with their forecasts due to slow sales of the PS3 phat. I guess they really didn't think that the PS3 slim was going to continue to be such a hot seller even 6-7 months after the price decrease. Also, I heard there were having parts issues so thus can't build them fast enough as is. Sony really is messing up especially with all the great games coming out for the PS3 HR, GOW3 and FF13. Sounds like they like 3rd place. Well I did my part as I have 2 of them and I buy all the big PS3 exclusives.

The same thing happened when the PS3 was first released here in the US. Even after it was on the market for 4 or 5 months there still was a shortage of systems.

I'm hearing alot about these shortages.
If it's true, it's because the PS3 is finally come into it's own. 2010 is an amazing year to be a PS3 owner. It is the Year of the PS3.
And the rest of what I have so say belongs in SW.

Dell.com has some it seems. With $30 off no less (they charge sales tax though so it amounts to the same as Amazon).

It's Sony's fault for not anticipating how much they were going to sell after Christmas, even though they had two AAAE coming out for the system early in 2010. (GoW 3 and Heavy Rain)

I know my local Best Buy and Walmart don't have any in stock. It's been like that for awhile too. I got the last 250GB from Walmart over a month ago.

I don't think Sony underestimated the demand I think Sony didn't have faith in the PS3 so they didn't manufacture as many systems.

um your a little confused. Since we are on gamespot forums and go by gamespot rules, the PS3 theoretically has only 1 exclusive AAA this year, and that would be God of War 3. Heavy rain flopped big time on Gamespot, so you might want to edit that part out

The price point of $299.99 enticed many new consumers, obviously. You can hardly find a blu-ray only player for that price nowadays, let alone a blu-ray player + game system, plus a hud for many multi-media features. It's an absolute steal...

If anything there's probably been another hardware revision and manufacturing got hung up a bit. No biggie. The games will still be there when the systems are available again.

I think the big thing is God of War III and Final Fantasy 13 coming out and maybe it's Sony trying to make it hard to find one.Sony is trying to raise supply and demand a little. All I know is that I have had my PS3 from launch so bring on God of War III.

This is a good thing. It's either on purpose or it's genuine but consoles that are high demand and can't be found create SOOOO much buzz. That's a major component of the Wii phenomenon. When it first launched there were multi-month waiting lists but it was big buzz/big media. That being said everytime this sort of thing happens I almost always assume it's the developer/manufacturer who is intentionally trying to create a shortage hysteria to drive up hype and actually build up desire before releasing an endless torrent of consoles. Who knows what the next two iterations of the slim line PS3 have in store.

Yeah I live in SoCal and I just picked up FFXIII and they had quite a few PS3s in stock.
