Hello peoples!

I was online playing with my friends the other day, and in between rounds someone brought up that he was needing to get a new controller because when he hit R3, it caused him to plant an explosive, which is up on the D-pad... Another guy piped up and said that R3 caused him to reload, a square button function... And we got to talking about how old these controllers were, how hard or gentle we were with them, and how long they were lasting in comparrison to 3rd party stuff, PS2 controllers, and it got me thinking...

1. How many controllers have you gone through, and

2. How long have you had them when they go out?

I think it would be interesting to compile stats on this, and see what the failure rate is on the various brands, and how sturdy each is, etc. So list how many controllers you've gone through, who made them, what went wrong with them (is there a pattern, with you, and with us all that runs common?)

Tell us the story of your controllers!

I don't 'go through' controllers. I've had the same ones since the day I bought my systems.

I was using my Sixaxis which came with my launch 60 GB. When my fatty broke down I got a slim 120 GB and started using the DS3 that came with it (around 10 months ago).

Still on my original DS3, Monkey. I've had it since the Slim launched and have experienced no issues whatsoever.

I am still using the same controller since I had from day 1. Works perfectly fine! And when the battery finally dies out permanently, I will just replace the battery.

I'm on my 2nd controller. My first one still works but it has 1000's of hours on itandit's just worn out. My buddy goes through controllers like crazy. They constently break on him. I don't know what he does to them I don't have that problem.

PS3 is 2+ years old, have 3 controllers, all work as well as the dvd remote. Wii is from 1 week after launch. I have 4 Wiimote controllers, 3 nunchucks, 2 classic, 4 GC, 2 Guitar hero guitars, and all of them work just as new. yea, and 3 M+ things. So i havent "gone though" any controllers. But i also dont throw them ever, and when not being used, all games/controllers are to be put back on shelf. I have 2 kids and a dog, so thats my rule( and i guess if you count the nunchuck my dog chewed then ive gone though 1 controller a couple years ago.)

Unless you buy crappy third party controllers, there's no reason why your controllers should fail on you. I've got Dualshock 1s from the PS1 era that still work fine.

I have 2 controllers. It's a weird story because I didn't break or lose one. Last year I was hard up for money so I put money on my PS3. When I payed it off and got it out of pawn, they lost a controller. They kept saying that I didn't bring one in, but here's the kicker. They told me when I brought it in that I needed to have 2 controllers and they even told me that the day I came in to pay it off. I had an official controller with the rumble pack. It was silver. They tried to make it right and gave me a controller but it doesn't have a rumble pack in it. So I have a sturdy hefty controller and a really light controller with a small chunck of the select button taken off.

Just got my PS3 a month ago, so I am still on the same controller. But I have gone through a number of keyboards and noises. Buttons o. The mouse would wear out. The wasd keys on my keyboard would wear out to the point that my fingers ate holes through the keys. Start off with the letters wearing off, then the keys would start to wear down more and more until it would wear all the way through.

I have 6 controllers, one of which broke because i tossed it onto my couch, it bounced off the cushion and something broke off the top of it making the R1, R2 buttons weird. Other than that little mishap all of my controllers are good! I also have two Move controllers and two navigational controllers that never even get touched :P

The two DS3s that I got together with the console 4 years ago were used on a daily basis, fell down several times, one of them were jumped on (my sister left it lying on my bed) and are still working almost perfectly. Only one of the four sticks feels a little bit odd but still does it's job flawlessly.

Th only time I've had to replace a controller was when I threw my dual shock 2 so hard against the wall that it broke. This was while playing Tekken 5 btw.

I had a SIXAXIS for a few years then traded that in. It worked fine even after I fixed it (I threw it and kind of broke it :P). I have three Dualshocks now but only really use two. On two of my DS3s, the L3 doesn't work so well but they still function properly.

I've got 3, a sixaxis that came the system, another one that I bought, and a DS3 that I bought when they came out. They all still work correctly. They are all the official controllers.

I have 5 controllers, 2 are original sixaxis that are probably 4 years old and 2 dualshocks and one blue dualshock. I'm currently letting one of my friends use one of my sixaxis so as far as I know all of them are working fine. I only remember one controller having an issue with R2 button and that was it.

In total, i've had 7, I had 3 SixaxiS, all from around launch, and they all broke within about 2 years, the sticks both went on one, the R2 broke on another, and the other one just stopped taking a charge, then when DS3 came out I bought a black one, gave it to a friend about a year later when the Blue DS3's came out, i still have that one, i bought a white one which still works, and i just bought the new Camo one..

Far out. My original has gone out on me but I blame that on an old roommate who is notoriously hard on stuff, so it's no surprise really. This new one I have, I guess we'll see, with only one user... I gueess my friends and I who've had controllers go out are in the minority? Go figger...

I have like 7 controllers, but only because I always end up buying new ones for no reason. I could still be using my original Six Axis if I wanted to. I always have people over all the time so there's 4 being used quite often. My brother had one borrowed for awhile also.

i have my first sixaxis that came with my 60gb ps3 from launch of 2006. then when play-asia announced that they had DS3 for sales i bought 3 of them for 100 had coupons, and i still have all those 4 controllers in good condition, with heavy use. COD games, kz, Resistances, fighting games ( sf, m vs c 3, etc..) i always do my best to take care of them as well as i possibly can. i mean i work my butt off to pay for all these controllers, might as well put a lil more effort into taking better care of it u know?

I've had my 2 controllers for 4 years, and only the one that came with the system has given my any trouble. Its left analog stick sticks a bit and seems slightly loose when pressing upward. Its still completely useable though, and has never caused any frustration.

I'm on my second Dual Shock 3. First one's analog sticks got really loose. It's still usable, but feels incredibly sloppy. I only use it as a secondary controller now.

I had to get rid of 2 controllers because of the analog stick getting stiff and sticky to move. Usually takes a couple of years for it get like that. My 3rd controller is alright at the moment.

Well I haven't used my PS3 as much as my other systems I own. But two DS3 controllers for me. One fell off my desk when I had hardwood floor and it screwed up the joystick. The other is still almost brand new. And I got the controller I'm using now when I got L.A. Noire. (I got it along with the game the day it came out so not long)

My PS3 controllers are just fine, and they're 2 1/2 years old. Only controller I ever needed to replace was for the PS2. Was playing a game that used R2 for the main attack button, and after the final boss fight there was some piece of plastic rattling around inside it and the R2 button would get stuck in the fully depressed position.

I have two controllers

1) A Standard Sixaxis I've had since PS3's UK launch - Only issue is one of the analogue sticks forward time to time

2) A DS3 I imported from US as soon as available, The spring on R2 trigger has failed meaning that it's loose and any pressure activates R2.

Both still working perfect apart from the minor defects mentioned above.

Keep meaning to buy a Blue DS3 :D Thanks for the reminder

I've probably gone through like 3, but they never completely broke.

My first broken controller, was a PS2 controller with turbo on. I used it to run in San Andreas without having to tap, but eventually holding X so much caused it to jam up and made it hard to use, so I retired it.

I went through two PS3 controllers, my original Sixaxis (which got a loose analog), and a Dualshock with the little rubber thing gone from the stick. They're still useable, but the Sixaxis less so (since it always sticks in one direction).

So far none have broken. I have retired my original purely for sentimental reasons and so far three others are working just fine.

I did notice with the first that the left stick did loosen up with age but that's just normal wear I figure.

Overall very impressed with the durability of the controllers.

On the other hand a friend with an 360 has gone through mutliple controllers. But maybe he's just not careful with his.

I still use my original controller that came with my PS3. So almost three years. My brother had a crappy Madcatz controller that broke after about 10 months, which he replaced with an Afterglow controller and it still works fine.

Dude how can you guys keep the old ones? The battery turns really bad after a month or two of gaming.
