Haven't played it but Brave Story is supposed to be really good, read the review, it sounds like a good game.

I'm a big fan of the Tales series, so I'll have to say Tales of the World: Radiant Mythology and Tales of Eternia (if you're lucky enough to get an import...I keep getting outbid on Ebay!) And of course I can't forget Valhalla Knights.

The RPGs they mention aren't considered stand out titles. They fit in the realm with a lot of other Japanese roleplaying games from overseas. If you are a hardcore RPG fan I think it would be worth giving them a try(I guess). At one point I was a RPG fanatic; especially in the late 90s where gaming in North America and Japan was bridging. But I think that era is over we have seen what's in Japan. Obviously good RPGs can compete with big games in other genres.

The main diffrence, battle system? Story? TotW is more or a dungeon crawler-mission RPG and Brave story is more traditional JRPG. TotW has more of a fighting battle system where you press x you attack system while Brave Story has more of a, once again JRPG, system with slight diffrences.
