here's the link: http://www.gamespot.com/news/show_blog_entry.php?topic_id=26183865&sid=6185228&action=convert&om_clk=latestnews&tag=latestnews;title;1. Previously, i have also asked some GS users what version of the PS3 to buy, 80 GB or 40 GB. Almost all posts say that i should buy 80GB, then i made my choice 80GB it is. Now i have one more problem, should i wait for the 120GB-160GB PS3 or i buy an 80GB PS3 this march(i plan to buy this coming march)?

I have a ps2 that is near to death. Might as well buy 80GB(not sure of that). I'll be gathering more reactions from others.

If i have the 80GB, i won't updgrade my HDD, i'll be contented w/ what i have. But in this case, i don't have a ps3 yet. and i wan't a big memory space to put anything i want. I put a lot of things onto my PSP.

My advice to you is since this 120gb ps3 is just a rumor. If it is not confirmed in march than you should just go with the 80gb.

or you could buy an 80gb or even 60gb, get your backwards compatability, and then just buy a new 120-250gb or whatever you like 2.5" hard drive from the local computer store and install it yourself?

they just use those 2.5" 5400rpm laptop hard drives.

Isn't it that the 60GB is phased out? How much is a hard drive?

I would wait to see the specs of the new model. If it offers everything that the 80 gig does but has a bigger harddrive and Dualshock, then go with the new model. However, if it drops any feature that the 80 gig has that you couldn't live without then get the 80 gig. It's not like the 80 gig will disappear from store shelves overnight.

i agree. just go ahead and buy a 80 gb since you already know its specs and are happy with them. this talk about a possible 120 or 160 gb ps3 is just rumor right now and there's no telling when it will come out. you could always upgrade the HD and buy a ds3 later is you want.

i'm about to do the same. i'm buying a 80 gb in a couple of weeks. i wanted the 40gb but bc is important to me.

From most of the statements and rumors I've been reading over the past few weeks, if and when the new PS3 SKU launches, there is a high likelihood that it will not have backwards compatibility. If this is important to you, then you should pick up the 80 gig units while they are still available. If BC is not an issue, and you don't mind waiting a month or two for official word on a forthcoming PS3 with a larger HDD, packed-in DS3, etc., then wait it out.

Makes sense man. Good point. Kind of funny (yet irritating too) how Sony keeps coming up with all these new models and then kills them months later...what do you think they'll sit on? 1 Terabyte?

I don't really know why anybody would need 160GB of space or even 120GB of space in a PS3 (especially if they don't have B/C).

Unless they include some other great features, I would just get the 80GB one.

Buy an 80gb bc the other skus are just rumors at this point. The 80gb has like 80-90% bc w/ ps2 games so should have no problems w/ that. You might want to get your 80gb sometime soon bc stores are starting to run out of them and not getting more but there will probably some 80gbs left in March

Dear Sony, please try settling on a sku that won't confuse the general audience. It's funny how early on Phil Harrison made fun of the 360 with how many skus they had and now Sony is just confusing everyone with 20, 40, 60, 80, and now 120/160? I guess if I were you, I'd wait and see how much the 120/160 GB are going for. And hope they are BC. :)

probably the 80 gig cause it's already a great deal, and you never know what the 120/160 gig will have to offer.

Well, If you want the backwards compatibility then I suggest you go and buy an 80GB right now or else you'll miss out. As for the 120 and 160GB models, we don't know anything about them at the moment, as well as not knowing when they'll come out in stores. If you knew me in real life then you'd be able to trade an 80 gig that you buy now for either the 120 or 160GB. That's how hooked up my friend is. I already have a 60GB PS3 as well as a 40GB PS3, damn I love having 3 PS3s now. I haven't opened the 80GB as we all know that there are new models on the way. If they have backwards compatibility then I'll trade it in, if not, well then I'll just use the 80GB and get another HDD. Oh, and for those who don't know, I upgraded my 40GB model's HDD to 320GB now, the same as my 60GB model. So what I'm trying to say is, if you really want the backwards compatibility, then go for the 80GB in March as you can just buy a higher capacity HDD for it like I did for both my 60GB and 40GB. If you don't care, well then just wait if you want. Just remember, it's your choice in what you want from your PS3. Don't have others tell you what to do.

since changing your own HDD for PS3 is very easy

you should buy 80GB this march

if you need more space, then you update your HDD by any size you want

besides, who knows when the 120GB will be available in stores ?

edit: he said it should be avaliable in spring
