Hi, I was thinking about getting a PS4 Pro, which I can get for £330 in the UK. However, I'm tempted by the Black Friday deal (which is still available this weekend) of a PS4 Slim + Uncharted 4 + FIFA 17 or (PS4 Slim + Watchdogs 1 and 2) for £199.

I'm not interested in getting a 4K TV.

So should I just get a PS4 Slim?

Unfortunately there no yes or no answer to this.

You have your basic model (old PS4)

The middle of the road model (PS4 slim)

High end model (PS4 PRO)

They all play PS4 games.

They all have HDR

The PS VR works on all three models

They all play blu ray

If you want the latest console with 4K extra frame rates. It doesn't have a 4K blu ray player but this might be added later after Sony has launched it low end price bluray player next year if rumours are to be believed.

The PSVR is supposed to have a better frame rates in the future on the pro.

But if you just want to jump in a game and not worried or care about the above then the PS4 slim is fine both are good consoles

Well, the PS4 Pro does have enhancements for 1080p games too. If I never owned a PS4, I would get the PS4 Pro, but that said, I do own a PS4 and I'm not interested in midgen upgraded consoles.

I just played Rise Of The Tomb Rider on PS4 Pro on my 1080p TV (which i'm not going to switch!) and it looks f**king amazing!! so i wouldn't say it's only a 4K TV owners console.

The pro improves alot of games at 1080p and every one from now on. I would choose based on that alone

@nirogol: Just finished it myself, it looks really good, but the latest patch is causing frame pacing issues.

I didn't played it before the last patch so i don't have any point of comparison, but i havn't noticed any frame issues so far.

I don't know it it's the frame pacing but Geothermal Valley seems to run worse than the rest/beginning of the game. You'll know when you get there. It's a heavy area and PC gamers are having problems running that area too, so it might just be it. DF did demo that area especially when they talked 'bout frame pacing though (if I remember correctly).

You still get some benefits in the Pro if you have just a standard 1080p TV you just won't get the resolution bump. I would say go with the Pro just to have the stronger of the 2 consoles, but that's of course if you have the money for it.

Definitely get a slim especially if you don't have or want a 4K TV. The PRO is a half-ass fake 4k. Some TV's are having problems with HDR right now, things have not been standardized yet in this department. Do a proper upgrade to 4k with the PS5 in a few years. I'm keeping my SLIM till PS5.

Go Pro!

I was sceptical but after buying it I'm a believer! I've been playing Rise of the Tomb Raider on a faux 4k e-shift projector and its incredible!

If you don't have a PS4 and you buy a Slim, you're doing it wrong.

I get the opposite impression.

Seems you're doing something right if you refuse to overpay for a console that is nothing more than a mid-tier gaming pc from 2010.

It's still the most powerful console in the world, how do you like that?

After we found out how The Last Guardian runs on the original PS4, there should be no doubt in anyone's mind about which PS4 system to get.

There's no easy answer. If it were me, I'd get the PS4 Pro simply because it'll last you longer - and as time goes on, you'll get the benefit of existing (patched) games as well as new ones. But it does also depend on what your general games budget is too - sometimes the package deals are really great.

Go with the best (PS4 Pro) if you already haven't done so.

i bought a PS4 back in May and i did know the pro was coming out, for me i was impatient and said screw it and bought the standard system. but i don't own a 4K tv and my tv is like 3 or 4 years old and i wasn't going to go out and buy a NEW tv when my tv now is working just fine as it is. so i choose not to buy the pro. HOWEVER had they announced back in the spring they were going to lower the price again, i would have waited and damn does that piss me off they did that.

holding off to let you know about the VR that i get but when it comes to lowering the price that is what really pisses me off. oh well too late now. what did you decide anyways

I'm about to sell my old PS4 to a friend and I am interested in the PS4 Slim special deal here in the U.S. The slim appeals to me because A. It uses less power than than the original PS4 which is a strong feature if you like using Hulu and Youtube like me and B. I'm waiting for Sony to inevitably place a 4k Blu Ray player. Hopefully!
