I bought a PS3 just yesterday, second hand off my buddy, and I can't seem to get it to detect my ip. He has cable and I have DSL, if that means anything. And no saucy posts about it not being plugged in, because all the plugs are in. >_>
that is strange my cousin has been using his PS3 online at my house and i have DSL and just the other day he got Cable and that is all he had to do to get it to work
when you ran the connection did it say that it would disconnect?
Have you tried connecting directly from the DSL modem to the console. Try taking the connection from your PC and connect it to the console it should work then.
Did you make sure all the settings are set to detect automatically or call the ISP, I know some are really anal retentive about what people have connected in there homes
With DSL i was almost certain you need a router. In that case your gunna have to connect the ps3 to your computer. If i were you though i'd just pick up a router that also supports wireless connection. They can be found for fairly cheap these days
Yes, you need a Router, unless you have a router built into your modem. Most ISP's will only give you one IP, the router is what you need to share that IP between different devices (Computer, PS3, Ect.)
My computer has a intergrated modem as it wouldn't be able to share the internet with anything else the only thing i can do is connect it directly through the DSL modem (ADSL) ... it won't detect the IP nor does it refresh when i disconnect and reconnect the playstation 3
you need a router PERIOD the manual says you do IT SayS "To connect using wired method you must have router connected to an ethernet cable*or dsl plug* it wont work ju connected to the dsl box
