Hey does anyone out there have/had a refurbished PS3? I am thinking about buying one but I'm not sure if i trust any salesman to give me advice. I'm trying to save as much money possible, without getting crap for it. Also does best buy/gamestop have a warranty for the refurbished consoles? any info, advice or comments are much appreciated. Thanks.

I believe GameStop does have a warranty on refurbished consoles. Are they reliable? That's hard to say. Yes and no. I've had a few refurbs straight from Sony. And most of them broke down. However, the last one I received has been fully functional and hasn't had a single problem in 2 years. But, to be perfectly honest with you, I would buy a new one just to be safe. Just one out of warranty break down and you'll regret it immediately.

i'd recommend against it. theyre likely to have had YLOD, but set up with the temporary fix. they just hope it wont break again til the warrantee's over.

No, totally unreliable.

Better to buy a new ps3. A refurbished one breaks within 3 months. In my experience.

Buy new if you can man. Gamestops refurbs are only like $60-80 (cost of a game) less than a new 120GB slim. By saving for another month or however long it takes you, you will have a reliable console, and a year warranty from Sony.

Also, I have read many times on these very forums that so and so traded in his 80GB to Gamestop for a slim because it was borderline YLOD/BD issues. I do not know how Gamestop refurbishes these consoles so if someone works for them it would be cool if they could shed some light on that.

By the way at Gamestop they are Gamestop Refurbished, not SONY refurbished unless the specifically say so. For all you know they are taking them in the back, turning them on, spraying some canned air in the vents, and calling it a refurb. I am not saying this is what they really do, but we ALL know that Gamestop is in the make a quick buck off anyone they can business.

Mine is 10 months in, and right now, whenever I play games, the fan would go straight to medium, and sometimes high. I think it's cuz of the hot weather.

From what i've seen & hear, refurbed consoles are hit & miss. That reason alone leads me to get only new consoles, just to avoid any hassle. Yahoo has an article up right now mentioning video game consoles as one of the things you shouldn't buy used. http://videogames.yahoo.com/events/plugged-in/the-pitfalls-of-buying-used-games-and-how-to-avoid-them/1403196

I've never bought a console used. Always buy game consoles new, especially if you count on having them around for a while. Plus it's just nicer and cleaner.

My ps3 was refurbished. Purchased from ebay back in 07. Still running strong and great. Even upgraded to a 500gig hdd with no issues. As a matter of fact the computer im using right now and laptop I purchased are both refurbished and I have no issues with any of them. Although I would be hesitant on a xbox 360.

I bought my 40GB PS3 two years ago off of some schmuck on Craigslist. My HDD went out, but a simple replacement fixed the problem right away. If you get a refurbed, make sure you get a warranty.

You do the math TC... What are the chances that those refurbished PS3 had YLOD and are fixed and sold again...? Cuz mine had YLOD and I fixed it myself and it last about a week before it gave out for good... so I suggest against it.

I have a Sony refurb and it works like new plus it comes with a 1 year warranty from Sony. I bought it from GameStop for $150 in December.

I bought a used PS3 at GameStop and it broke after nine days, I guess I was lucky that I was within their 30 day (I think it was) warranty. However my refurb from Sony back in January of 2008 is still working fine.

I know that BestBuy has some great PS3 bundles right now. They come with a game and extras for the normal price. I would just pick up a slim. It is worth the extra cash getting a new one with a full 1 year warranty.

Buy it new!!! Trust me...those few bucks you trying to save by buying a Refurbished..not worth it. If the PS3 breaks...you will have to pay 2x!!

Its all just luck. My refurbished unit lasted me a year before I sold it. To my knowledge it's still going strong.
