@Nonstop-Madness:

It's for futureproofing. The console should be able to output 8K for:

- 8K physical media

- 8K streaming

- VR

- Upscaling 4K games on 8K TVs

- Checkerboard rendering (or similar techniques) on 8K TVs

The PS4 Pro outputs at 4K yet renders at like 1800p

This is absolutely correct. There is no further need for discussion on this subject. The PS5 is 8k capable, it has nothing to do with gaming necessarily. It is a positive thing though, by the end of the consoles life cycle 8k video formats will most likely be much more prevalent.

Enjoy your 500GB games for 8k, if some games are already at ~110GB (RDR 2), for what? HDR and open world.

It'll be hilarious what 8k is, even indies, and on that note, Subnautica is an indie, and look how big that game is.

@firedrakes: yeah I do. They could solve it, in 2 ways. Either a fantastic compression system or a ssd/HDD combo that work like a hybrid.

the problem with the compression thing you mention that will take a beefy amount of ram and cpu. i have a set up like that on my desktop and it slams both the what i just mention. it eats around 20gb(of 120gb of ram ) and 12 cpu cores(i have 32).

like what gtr said. people really don't understand the file size issue.

@firedrakes: its 4x times the size of 4k. Not hard to understand. You don't think next gen is going to be beefy. Chances are it's just going to be horribly upscaled anyway.

yeah you got no clue now.... to do a simple size caparison . lets say video. images are a bit different in size but that more to do with the odd format issue they use.

basic 1 hour of 4k video. 700gb now to 8k 7.3 tb....

the average write speed of file for 8k 121.5 GB per minute .

can i ask you. do you work in any of the fields dealing with 2k,4,8k,12k etc??? or a game dev?

just in-case with a image. average semi compress jpeg.(their a few version of this) is around 7.5mb now to raw image with zero compression is 50mb.

you only going after me now and surprising not against gtr. which is saying the same thing.

@firedrakes: that's uncompressed and raw 4k. If I buy a 4k Blu-ray it's 700gb, is it?

I didn't reply to gtr because you are the one who started to talk to me.

Yeah, lets leave my name outta this, PS5 isn't doing 8k, it'll be a stretch to do 4k/30/HDR.

Don't care. I just bought a 3499€ 75" 4K Sammy, which still has better contrast than any Sammy released this year. I guess they gotta push forward, but not gonna invest in 8K tech for a while.

In some 2D type games sure but there's no way any 3D rendering could be possible unless it was like a PS2 game or something. I think this is more a statement of its max resolution.
