I'm actually really confused. So many different websites and videos say different thing about the status of the PS4 pro's 4K status. Anybody know the real deal?
Most games wont be rendering on native 4K, but something lower such as 1440p 1800p etc, then using new fancy algorithms to upscale it to 4K leading to an end result that looks better than the base render resolution but still not quite as good as native 4K would. So in most cases it will not be "real" 4K, but still considerable upgrade from 1080p never the less.
Fake 4K on PS4 PRO, as well as fake HDR as you can't do real HDR unless its real 4K... everything is upscaled.
It's certainly capable of producing native 4k graphics (confirmed: Elder Scrolls Online, TLOU Remastered, FIFA(?) etc) but not for most AAA / blockbuster games. Games like Horzion Zero Dawn, Mass Effect, Tomb Raider etc. will be running at something like 1440 or 1800p and then be uprendered to 4k. The native resolution is still significantly larger compared to PS4 without the fancy uprendering etc.

Pretty much. Unfortunately the streams don't really convey the improvement to graphics, and I think that's confused a lot of people.
But the resolution difference - even the "simulated 4K" - will be significant. The HDR improvements also make quite a big impact. There's a really great video from Digital Foundry that goes through all the detail and it's fairly impressive what the PS4 Pro can do.
