I had the fatty ps3 first, but a few months ago I bought the slim one. The slim one is better, less freezes and so much more GB.

Depends on your needs, dont care about ps2 games slim is better, i dont have any freezes hardly ever on my 80gb so i dont think thats a n issue. More GB you can buy 500GB for less than half of a slim so thats not a problem either. It comes down to need IMO,

I have a "fat" one, it works just fine and in many ways it's better than the slim. Never had any freezing issues and I have backwards compatibility. :D

I've had slim, never played on a fat. I think the slim is better in almost every way, but I could definitely go for some backwards compatibility. :(

PS3 slim is much better because the Fatty is prone to ylod, uses more electricity, has less GB and the fan is way too loud. I also like the slim design better.

I have a fat PS3, I pout in my own HDD so I got 120gb which is more than enough for me, I can get the slim, but it just doesn't look as slick

well, obviously the slims are better for using less power, being more quiet and having bigger HDD's.

but the ps3 fatty looks more appealing, dam that thing was pretty :P

EDIT: but the slim is pretty slick too.

Slim

+

  • Quieter
  • More GB
  • Uses less power
  • Smaller
  • No smears, fingerprints

-

  • More freezes
  • The cracking noises. The goddamn cracking noises.
  • No PS2 BC
  • Less USB ports but I never used more than one at a time. So ignore this.
  • Not as nice to look at.

Slim. Just.

The Slim version: Higher pitch fan noise in newer models. Cheap plastic exterior No touch panel on and off No colored and rotable P logo Less USB's No SD, Memory Stick slots No BC First i want to tell you that i have one Slim model. If you are going to get a new one go with the Slim.

How quite the fan is depends from the time you got the unit. Some of them came with a Delta Fan and others with a Nidek.

Well I have both a Playstation 3 fat and a Playstation 3 slim.

A Playstation 3 60giger (one of the last made before Sony discountined that model)

Playstation 3 120giger (The launch model slim) Sept 2009.

Which is better?

Well since I took the time to go though all of the difficulty and trouble of hunting down the last of the "Classic Playstations" the fabled 60giger because of the Backward compatiblity with Playstation 2 games. Since I have 121 PS2 games this made sense. Plus I wanted the Memory Stick Duo/Pro reader.

Before that I had a PS3 40giger Which is fine (I was able to put 41 PS3 game saves on the HDD)

For me the PS3 60giger is worth it and was worth taking the time to find one.

But if you don't care about BC Then any PS3 will do you just fine. The slims are better at resisting YLOD

My PS3's have never given me any difficulties. For the look the Slimline or the fat (depends on which you like more)

My vote is for The Original Phat PS3 (Spiderman logo and Chrome trim) The classic look from "way back 2006"

Fat PS3s were definitely more prone to failure and probably due to all that extra electricity being used which causes it to overheat then comes ylod. Brand new release models always tend to have bugs with it. My friend has a fat ps3 and he had to turn it in a couple times and it got so super hot and it was insanely loud compared to my slim ps3. I really don't see how anyone can watch a movie with a fat ps3 wity all that heat and loud fan. Good thing that Sony fixed that with the slims.

PS3 Phat is better.

Plays PS1/Ps2/ and PS3 games in one. Making it a TRUE PS3 ;) .

I bought a 500gb HDD so im good on GB.

Its pretty damn quiet anyways.

Sure its heavier, but it just looks damn sexy with the old Spiderman lettering.

Also, does the slim have the SD card slots? i've never seen one up close.

I'm really liking the Slim, but then I guess I'm in the minority that actually really likes the design of the slim over the design of the fat PS3.
