No matter what way you look at it the PS3 NEEDS a redesign. It's still too big to even be put in a bag and taken to a friend's house. They must've really meant for the PlayStation to be left at home this gen. It's just too big and I still can't get over it's morbedly obese shape. The PS2 went from big to mini and it still works good, if not better than the 1st PS2. I'm sure Sony will be slimming the PS3 down eventually, but when?

I don't believe portability was ever a consideration during design. I would say at least 4-5 years.

But I do it pretty much every weekend.

well, they are going to start making the 45nm Cell CPUs later this year, probably Nov/Dec, which means less heat, and since the 40gb has a 65nm chip and runs way cooler then the 80gb @ 90nm id say Sony might show a slim PS3 next year at either E3 or TGS, of corse it will have to have an externall power brick, cuz it will still need a lot of power, and there just wouldnt be enough space for it with the HDD, Blu-ray drive and mobo

I have a PS3 carrying case and it works great. There's enough room for everything unless you have alot of games like me. I just use the GTA4 duffle bag for my games.

Wouldn't his friend be bigger than the ps3??? If he can't fit a ps3 in a bag than i doubt he could find a way to transport his friend to his house.

I love the look of the PS3, i think it looks powerful and sophisticated. And I don't mind moving it from place to place.

Regardless and who gives damn when PS2 was redesigned? That's the lamest question. Because PS2 is a old-gen system, this is a new gen and the technology would take longer to fully adapt and minimize. 4-5 Years.

Either way the obvious answer is he needs a bigger purse.

ya he does, other then that the PS3 was ment to be in your home just bring your friend over, if you want portability i highly suggest buying a Nintendo DS or a Sony PSP.

Why would you carry a $500 console to your friends house. Tell him to get off his lazy ass and come to your place

You ever wonder why the PS3 was curved on top and the Xbox 360 was concave on both sides?

It's because if you ever laid them on their sides, you would put them on top of all your other equipment.

i.e. DVD players, AV recievers, cable boxes.

It's another way of advertising.

People will notice it because it's on top of your crap, or if you stand it straight up, people (visitors, relatives, etc.) will notice it standing by itself and ask "Is that a PS3/Xbox 360?" or "What is that?"

They've been doing this since PS2. But, of course with the PS2 you could lay it on its side, but why would you want to? Horizontal game consoles was so last gen.

It was all about the vertical PS2.

The reason it's so big is because the power supply is INTERNAL. The 360 power supply is EXTERNAL, hence the BRICK, which the PS3 doesn't have. If they made it external on the PS3 it would be smaller, but it would be pointless because you would have the BRICK. THINK, people.

You would rather have a smaller system than all of the good games we have right now because I don't think all of the hardware would fit inside of a ps3 if it was slimmer.

Well, I would say 5 years after the PS3 launched....so around 2011...we should get a nice sleek version of the PS3. And im sure their researching smaller components for the PS3 system right now. Since 3 factors come into play with sales...."Price".."The System Itself"..and "Mobility".

It got redesigned in 2004, which is 4 years after. So maybe in 2010, but I doubt they will slim it down this time.

its called the playstation portable or its called This. I have something like that paid 20 bucks for it, and its paid it self over in my opinion, because I've probably taken it inbetween places over 150 times now.

Redesign took just over 4 years.. But they won't change it for ages, why mess with something that's designed perfeclty anyways. Sony don't see it as a console. It's a media hub to them, so why make something piddly and small that doesn't fit in well with an AV rack for your cinema.
