I'm not sure about how to replace the Slim HDD or even if its possible but I did it on my Fat . Went from 40GB to 320GB SATA drive for a measly 70 bucks.
Your friend is hilariously mistaken.A friend of mine told me that the Fat has 9 graphic acceletators and the Slim only 5, is it true?

Slim has larger Hard drive, doesnt make noise when the cooling fan comes off, but the main difference is the bigger harddrive which is better if youre, like a hardcore gamer who plays a LOT of campaign based games and also if you wanna store movies songs e.t.c Ikechi2608Yup that about sums it up, my old 80gb ps3 got ylod so I got a slim, I love the extra hd space and the fact that it's smaller and doesn't make as much noise as my old one, I'd recommend buying it if you have the funds to do so
my 60 gig ps3 has
ps1
ps2
ps3 bc via hardware
a 8 0 gig old only gets their ps2 and 1 games bc by software/emulation
any thing newer then the old 80 gig only plays ps1 games, including the slim /and ps3 bluray of course and dvd and music cd which all ps3s do ,
your gonna be missing ps2 bc in short
and 2 usb ports as well as card readers if you get the slim
if you get the fat a** ps3 youll get 4 usb possibly ps2 bc and card readers
The 60GB has more costly components.bobaban
it costs more because back then, PS3 has poor economics scale and they also has poor cost management. Beside production cost usuallyreduces over time. It's same as it costed more manufacture 486 100 CPU than i3 cpu now. I am pretty sure PS1 first batch product cost more than slim PS3 now if you count ininflation as well,
Anyway, in general, ppl dont like fat, so you can tell fat PS3is generally an inferior version comparing to slim, unless you has "special need" such as PS2 compatibility and extra USB ports. After all, you can always find ppl choose fat beings because they have speical need like extra ports and compatibility.
The difference ? One model have 100% chances or getting YLOD, the other, maybe not.jack00
You do know that less than 1% of fat ps3 gets yold right?

Extra USB ports, and the PS2 chip does add to cost. Not to mention the touch buttons and shiny exterior. The fat IS higher quality parts. Please Log In to post.
