Do I need to do some settings if I hooked my ps3 up to my pc moniter.Glock_47Tell us what connectors you are using. All of them.
Get an optical cable and hook it up to your stereo. If your stereo doesn't accept optical. Then, buy come PC speakers that do. They have them at Best Buy or CompUSA. PC Speakers that accept fiber optic (also called TOSLINK). Later, when you get a receiver that has HDMI. You can use that for both audio and video.dvi/hdmi only

Some monotors and tv's do not upconvetr to 1080i from 720p. Because of this, you will see a black screen.
This problem is only when you use component cables. If you use dvi, your fine.
Forget vga. Use dvi if you have a monitor unless you have a monitor that also has hdmi input.
Either than that, the ps3 is a sick little puppy that can handle anything you through at it.
I would suggest you go with a 24 inch monitor with either dvi or hdmi, but if you go with a tv set, go with lcd 1080p but not bigger than 46 inch.
If you want a bigger tv, wait until the led displays come out in about 4 to 5 years and then you will still be able to have a perfect 1080p and finally having the full advantage of blu-ray quality games and movies.
As long as your LCD monitor is HDCP compliant, you shouldn't have any trouble.
However, you will have to use either the optical audio output or the composite cables that came with it for audio.
I heard that u can use hdmi cable in a sdtv is that trueGlock_47
Component cables can be used on some model SDTVs, but I've never heard/seen HDMI cables on one. That doesn't mean that it doesn't exist though.
