There really is no PS1 emulator. As far as legal, there are only a handful of games that you can download off the playstation store. When you download the game, it just works. Actually, I'd say the emulator is built into the PSP firmware. Get the latest version of PSP firmware and you have the latest emulator.

Is there a way to legally transfer your own ps1 games to the computer then to your psp and play them? Since you said that the latest firmware has the ps1 emulator, I figure I just need the games right?

If you have a PS3, there is a remote play thing that lets you put a PS1 disc in the PS3 and play it over your network on your PSP. I've tried it and it really doesn't work all that well. Quite a bit of lag.

I always thought roms are legal as long as you own the original, you need to make an image of the game on your pc en you need keys and png files or something, than you'll need to convert them to an eboot file, look for a tutorial though. I've tried and failed before.Jelle87
Commonly believed but legally unclear in the USA. In Canada, I think its legal, no real idea for other jurisdictions.

It may be legally unclear, but it shouldn't be.

I myself am Playing RE2, RE3, FF7: All on my psp.

you need to have a custom firmware if you want to port games to your psp through the pc, not from psn

Hmm, I was playing through FFVII a while back and played a couple hours of it on my PSP through remote play. Played perfectly. I would guess it greatly depends on the strength of your signal, especially if you aren't using a direct network signal with the ps3.
