i have somthing known as a ground loop and i was wondering how dangerous it is to break off the groud rod oof of the power cord?

Breaking the ground off the power cord wont break the unit.  It will still run, but the ground is there in case of a fault in the circuit.  If there is a fault in the circuit and you do not have a ground on the plug, the machine can become energized itself or the board in the Ps3 can get "fried".  So you are right.  The ground is for safety.  Its not needed for the Ps3 to work since all plugs have a neutral and are grounded initially at the panel in your house

It's not really dangerous I don't think, but it is an extraordinarily bad idea.  For sensitive equipment, that grounding wire is pretty important.

I would advise against it.  While chances are it wont really effect it, do you really want to risk that with a $500-600 dollar piece of equipment?
