Ever since SSF4 I havent been into the gaming mood. then I started a 2nd job and barely have free time and now barely play my ps3. i got red dead redemption but i havent gone on after the introduction. im losing it man. im only 23, ive been gaming since i was 5 very regularly. and I know gaming has its droughts from time to time but i just cant seem to get back into it. i would always, every single day turn on my ps3 be it to play the newest demos, or newest games, or to just get some rounds in on street fighter (hd remix or ssf4) but now i could care less and even considered selling my ps3. my friggin baby! i customized it so nicely, so much media on there, nice backgrounds and 320 gigs of space.

ARGH. anyone been through this and went back to gaming? i fear i may just stick with mobile gaming since it seems to fit my lifestyle better. this is horrible

Yeah, I've kinda been going through that stage. I haven't really felt the urge to play video games lately, and when I do it's just to pass free time. It really isn't for the entertainment as much anymore.

gaming is very much alive just depends on what games you play. and if you are bored playing on your ps3 pick up a 360 and see if things change but before you do that you gotta play different games... if ssf4 was all I played the ps3 would of already been traded son..

I'm with you.. gaming is still fun but not as fun as it used to be. I can stare at game shelves for hours with some spare money in my wallet and most of the times I can't find anything that looks interesting.. unlike when I was a kid and every game out there seemed to be so much fun. However, something interesting always comes along, that's why I'm not selling my consoles [again, lol]. I think this is also due to the lack of quality in games, developers are rushing everything out the door just to get some cash.

Well, nothing wrong with mobile gaming. PSP and DS have some of the best games available, and 3DS is just around the corner.

I go through that every couple months, it only really lasts for like 2-4 weeks for me but I never think about selling my games or systems. I find that going back to old games on the NES, SNES, Genesis, and dreamcast sometimes sparks my interest again. This is mainly just because the games on those systems are just so much fun and are more of pick up and play instead of having to play for hours just to get good again.

i went through that phase. i just kinda grew outta "new games" i got to the point where i wanted to just pop a game in and play for 30-45 minutes and feel like i had made some kind of progression instead of the typical "i gotta sit here for an hour and a half to get through this level and god forbid i die and have to start back over at the halfway point" sure games are made to be saved anywhere now but i loathe turning on a game and thinking "where was i again? what was going on?" that was the thing i loved about the nes and snes games, some were incredibly long (like the ff's and dq's and shining forces of the day) and others you could beat in 20 minutes or less if you knew what you were doing (mario 1-3)

i dunno, it seems like most of the games i pop in now revert to "escort this person here, defend this person/area, kill this many enemies, collect this many of this item to unlock this other thing" it gets a bit old

all in all i still play games, but maybe only a couple hours a week,

Quickly, GRAB MY HAND!!!! ...:P What you're going through is nothing out of the ordinary. Whether this is a phase or a permanent change remains to be seen, but in the mean time: do whatever feels right and don't force the issue if the desire to play isn't there. Either way, life will go on :) As for selling your PS3: I strongly discourage you to do so. You will regret nothing more than not having your PS3 if (or when) you'll once again recapture that "gaming itch."

Some days I just don't feel like gaming. Honestly, there have been times when I'm more interested in READING about games on this site than playing them! :P

That said, the longest I've ever gone without playing recently is a few weeks. I had just finished a game and didn't really feel up to playing anything else. This gen of gaming is the first time I've bought a console since the Gamecube. My love for gaming kind of fell back then and I missed out on the entire PS1 and PS2 library. The PS3 is my only console this gen and first Sony console and I'm having SO much fun. So I guess you could say my longest break was a couple years.

But like someone above said, you can't force the issue. Don't force yourself to play a game because you think you should. That defeats the purpose of gaming. Find something fun and different to do with your time. Take me for example: I draw, paint, listen to music, and write songs. I play guitar, bass, and drums. I'm a self-proclaimed movie buff. I like photography. I also like debating with people (hence all my posting on System Wars :P). But after I cycle through those things, I come back to gaming fresh. It becomes new again...and I fall in love with it all over again. :)

gaming, when it is not addiction, is a very good hobby and if you enjoy doing it once in your lifetime, chances are that you'll come back to it, there may be other priorities in your life however, you'll return to what you enjoy eventually, when you have time for it... :)

If it makes you feel any better I go on a 5 month gaming hiatus every summer to go on vacation annually...so gaming is actually a hobby at the end of the day you don't have to do it 24/7...I play hockey, but I don't sleep in my equipment...I'm sure you'll get back into it soon as a game toots your horns (is this even the right expression? i dunno :S).

that happens to everyone, it'll come and go, dont sell it trust me, nothing feels worse then regret. its been kind of a dry spell for games recently, and red dead redemption is BORING, i didnt even finish it. try some genres that you normally dont buy, perhaps some platformers, or rpg's or sports games

It's called real life and I'm not trying to be funny and sarcastic. You hold down a job, in your case TWO jobs. Your moods will swing around. I hold down a full-time job and I go to uni full-time. Some days, I dont even want to play video games at all. And when I try to, nothing seems to strike a chord. But E3 has really invigorated my gaming mood. The only problem are release dates now. :P

I stopped gaming during the PS1/N64 generation. I came back with the PS2. Do you feel like you have to play your PS3 every day to justify owning it? I regularly go weeks without playing my PS3. It doesn't bother me. The point is, it's there for when you do want to use it. If you go a week or two without using it, don't let it bother you. Some would say it's a good thing.

I doubt this will be a long term thing, sometimes it's easier to just not play. However, I find a good way to get over a gaming lull is to try something completely different, a type of game you've never played before, or even thought about playing. Even if you think you won't like it, trying something new could get that spark back, so to speak.

I stopped gaming from age 19 - 26. In college I was too poor to afford games. When I was 24 the PS3 was released but I couldn't really afford it. So it took a couple of years for me to be able to afford an HDTV and a PS3. I'm 28 now and have enjoyed gaming the past 2 years but it comes and goes. There are times I don't play much for a month because I'm spending time on other hobbies. Then, when Demons Souls came out I played about 4 hours every day for a month :D

This is sound advice, too. Many times I hear people complain of being bored with gaming. When asked what kind of games they play it ends up being all shooters. All RPGs. All RTS. Branch out, dude! Find something that looks interest outside of your comfort zone and give it a try. The same goes for music and movies. Don't be afraid to look into something different. I just got back into gaming this gen and Fallout 3 was (surprisingly) pretty much my first RPG. Now I LOVE RPGs! Valkyria Chronicles is another game that surprised me. I'm not into JRPG's or anything with that cutesy over-the-top Japanese anime style, but it's seriously a great game, so I overlook that. Now I'm intersted in more games in that style. The stealth elements in Batman: Arkham Asylum got me more interested in the MGS series. Maybe try a simple downloadable game like a puzzle game or a 2D sidescroller. Something that isn't too deep and big on story. This games you can sit down and play any time and they're addicting as hell (Critter Crunch, I'm looking at you).

There's lots of variety out there. Just give it a try.

It happens with age. You cant stay a hardcore gamer forever.Other things happen in your life now that demand your time and so you dont have the time or interest. Its perfectly normal. Happened to me and it will happen to tons of other gamers as they get older.

The interest will come and go so I would not suggest selling your PS3 unless your are in hard financial times and need the money.

I am a huge fan of gaming, but I have had moments where I just dont feel like playing a game. That seems rare for me, but at times its the games you have, and other times it just is some feeling haha. But I got back into them quite abit and right now I don't feel like playing the games I have, but I do feel like playing some Wii (gonna buy one) cause for now I am sort of sick of all the games for my PS3. It's something that comes and goes, but more often then not I want to game :P. Nintendo's E3 really got me pumped again :).

This has happened to me on a few occasions and also when I recently bought my PS3. Just got less interested. But I gave it a break, went for games I wouldn't normally go for, and can't get enough of my PS3 now :)

lol this is a good support group going on here, im glad it's being talked about because im currently going through the same thing, I have a full time job and im at uni and it's got to the point where I turn on my ps3 and just stare at it, I feel I should be playing games because ive had so much fun over the years with them but it's not giving me the same enjoyment anymore which is disapointing me as I always hoped id even be playing games when im 70 years old, I really hope the buzz comes back when i've finished uni and have more free time.

Don't play because you feel like you should be. Play because you want to. It's a hobby, not an obligation. And if you go through periods of not feeling like playing don't worry about it. It'll be there where you feel like playing again. There's periods where I play for several hours every day, and there's periods where I go for a couple of weeks without touching a controller. and don't sell your console. Something will come along that will strike your interest and you'll regret not having the console then.

i fear that i can't play my games anymore -_-

DangerHiVoltage

I went through many phases like this one. I've been gaming since I was 4, but never in that time was I an extreme gamer, more like an on and off gamer. I bought UFC Undisputed 2010(more because of my MMA obsession than gaming obsession though)recently but before that I hadn't bought a game in 5 or so months. I'm sure at the end of 2010 and the beginning of 2011 I'll be gaming like crazy because of all the great releases I've seen in E3 though. My advice is to not sell your ps3, your interest will probably be back sometime and you'll be very glad your ps3 is still there.

there is no law that says that you have to be playing video games all the time non stop. soon there will be a game that you want to play. just let that mother f%&*er sit. when you wanna play games it will be there. your older now. playing games all day every day is for kids.

I wouldn't worry too much about it. You're just going through a phase right now. I went through the same thing also but the love for gaming will always be there.

There's no shame in taking a break to get things done irl. I know what it's like not to have time for gaming.
Put it to you this way:
I got GoW3 within a few days of its release. I'm just finishing it now. Ya...clocked about 15 hours in a couple months.
Around and sincethat time I bought:
FFXIII, Sonics Genesis Collection, and RDR.

Onething that helps get the gaming love back is to stop geeking out over the news everyday. Seriously, I laid off the IGN and the GS for over a month, and I found my appreciation for games again. After awhile readin gthe gaming news everyday and critiquing games all the time on message boards made me lose my focus on what actually does make a game enjoyable.

This has slowly but surely been happening to me as well. It mostly started a couple years back, when I was finishing up highschool. I started workingnout, having a full time job/during the summer/ part time job during uni.

I still play games, but a lot less than I used to. A girlfriend takes up a lot of time, and so does a full time job. I don't regret it though.

what keeps me goin is i dont stick to one particular type of game. Every day i have to contemplate what i want to play. "Hmm WKC or maybe MAG? I think ill go with FF13 for now and hit MNR later today." Combine with my PC MMOs, waitin for FF14 and my PSP/DS, ive got nothin to do but work and game.

"back to playin MGS4"

[QUOTE="Ryan_Som"]

I'm with you on all of it. Plus sometimes I'm more interested in reading about games on this site than playing them too.
