So, I am going to buy a PS3 Metal Gear package, but I do not have a HDMI capeable TV or reciever. Can I hook the PS3 up via component or S-Video?

You won't get HD resolution with S-Video, but you will with Component so go with that.

Yup, and if you have a component cable for your PS2, you can just go ahead and use that because they have the same port lol.

The port on the ps3 for component looks exactly like the one as the composite. If you have a ps2 the composite cables for that are exactly the same for ps3. Same port same size, same everything. But to answer your question component will give you an hd picture, not 1080p but you will definitely get HD.

Yes, I have mine hooked up via component even though I have HDMI on my HDTV. Really there is not a big difference at all unless you get to 50+ inch HDTV's.

Not really, depending on the TV you have depends on whether you get 1080p via component. Plus if you are upconverting DVD's you can't do it through component, only HDMI.

Please don't listen to this guy, a $10 HDMI cable will work just as well as a $100 cable. The expensive cables are way overpriced and the cheap ones do the exact same thing.

So true. A cheap hdmi cable will do the job.. unless your PS3 is located far away from the tv, but i doubt it. :P

Quoting for backup. He speaks the truth; cheap HDMI cables are just as good, sometimes even better than the "high end" models.
