I just bought one of the newer PS3s that has no backward compatibility to the PS2.

It's a model CECHL01 if you care to know.

I was just curious if anyone has heard of any thoughts to bring emulation software to this or other newer models of the PS3 so we can play PS2 games. I know the original method was to leverage an additional chipset inside the system. That has since been removed. However, I have also read of software emulation, particularly in the UK that was used to allow folks to play PS2 games.

Anyone have any news or information on this?

Most likely (my opinion, no source) they will not provide software emulation as a firmware update until they stop selling ps2's.
