I just got a PS3 today and i hooked it up to my LCDTV through an HDMI connection. Is it unusual that when my ps3 switches between displays (or screen resolution) from 1080p to 720p that a poppong sound occurs. Any ideas what might be happening?

mine does that too when it switches from 720p to 1080i, i think its just the HDMI handshake thing, where the TV takes a second or two to recognize the signal.

I know that PC monitors make a flicking noise when loading up a game. but a pop sounds abit unhealthy

Make sure ALL cables are connected correctly, turn off your speakers/volume to see if is audio based or the TV itself is making the pop. Last but no least try using the scart lead supplied with the PS3/PS2

Try these test, you can determine whats wrong by doing them, if you understand me

Mine is. The 46" 1080p 4661F.  Mine pops..screen goes blank and comes back after about three seconds. It does this in game or about twice every three hours. Is this normal for Samsungs?

Hi, last weekend I bought a new LCD TV ready for the digital switchover in the UK and made the move from having my PS3 connected to scart to HDMI using a top of the range HDMI cable capable of 1080p.

Since playing the games on my PS3 through HDMI I have come across occasional jumping in the in game sounds and these are quite often followed by popping/clicking noises. My TV is totally fine with the sound when watching TV programmes so I am assuming the TV is not the fault. The picture quality is also superb when playing PS3 games so no issues there!

When I made the move from scart to HDMI, I set up the PS3 to auto detect the capabilities of the resolutions etc by turning the console off and holding the power button down for a few seconds until the beep is heard and the settings are automatically detected. The list that came up has listed four resolutions and two of them which are ticked is 1080p and 1080i so I am assuming the TV is capable of these resolutions based on the PS3's findings, but I'm not 100% sure whether it is for definite. Could it be that maybe the resolution is too high which may be causing the sound problems? I have even tried changing HDMI cable to a top of the range one with gold plated connectors thinking this may improve things as I did have another HDMI cable which was much cheaper and this also had the same problem!

I have researched my TV model on the internet and am awaiting an E Mail back from the support department of my TV manufacturer to clarify what my TV is capable of as I'm not 100% sure what it is capable of as some sites are saying the TV is capable of HDMI 1080p but other sites are saying it is not fully HD.

In the TV audio settings on the TV itself I noticed by default in the sound settings the sound output is set on PCM but the other option available is Dolby Digital. Would this solve the issue I am having and will the popping cause any damage to the TV or the console eventually? The TV is capable of virtual surround sound according to its menus.

If anybody could help with this issue any advice would be greatly appreciated. For reference, I have posted a link below for my TV model which details its spec from the maker's website. (It is a 19 inch LG).

Many thanks in advance.
