my ps3 isn't reading disks. help!!

i was playing fifa 11, online and the connection was bad, the game crashed and i couldn't do anything, so after 5 minutes i switched off the ps3 and when i turned it back on it isnt reading discs anymore. i deleted the game save as EA saud it could be currupt and it started working again for a little while but it broke again after it half loaded up.
HELP?

try another game or a blu ray movie and see what happens PS3 could be broken though, laser reader usually goes the most, it happened with my ps2

I tryed another game and it worked so i quit, but when i quit it said the disk was then currupt

Not sure it could be your HDD to with corrupt data happening, try movies try all your games just to get a feel. I say a movie more importantly since games are blu ray too this can probably give you a better idea between laser reader or actuall HDD

If i delete the fifa 11 game save and then enter the game again, it reads the disc, but then doesn't load it and crashes again. It also reads DVDs fine, just checked.

you dont have any blu ray movies, not sure if it matters but games are blu ray disk so if you have blu ray movies it will let you know it can still read blu rays

That happend to me try this go on the recovery system screen and choose option 3 the 3rd one the others will delete your files and memory. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EFAPD1fmy8A&feature=related

If that dosent work then start a demo for 10secs then check it should read your discs.

kk did that, kind of. didnt give me options, just kinda reset my ps3 but kep all my data.

Working for now, i shall see if it stays like this.

nope, worked for a couple of minutes, then crashed again.

well since the game is showing up in the screen its probably your hdd going bad, i would recommend backing up your ps3 and chaning out your HDD you can get some pretty cheap ones out there with a good amount of space. What kind of ps3 do you have slim or older?

I went through this about 2 months ago. try going to Sonys website. download the latest system update to a flash stick. and load the flash stick on your ps3. for me it turned out that the update was corrupt. haven't had an issue for weeks (playing every night). Mine would play Blu-ray movies, but not the games.

i've been on the phone to sony, and they made me go through a series of reboots and restores which didnt work in the end, it made the game work for an other 10 minutes but then once again it crashed, after all that they said: because I am a loyal customer (bit late for arse licking) it will cost me 134 pound to get a replacement.

I havn't downloaded a new system software in a while so it actually likly to be that, that is currupt?

i've now got it to recognise there is a game in there, but whilst loading up any game it crashes half way through :s

I don't know IF that will solve your issue, just telling you what it did for me. Somehow, My HD "lost" part of the latest update. Reinstalled that and its great. yours very well good be a bammer laser (mine didn't even try to play a game. just made the spinning "clock" go for about 20mins before telling me it couldn't find a disk in the drive)
