Ok, so i just upgraded my old 60gig model with a Seagate Momentus 500gb hdd, 7200 rpm. The drive went in perfectly and everything, i was verycareful not to strip any screws or mess anything up at all. Now, when i start the PS3, it come up with a message that says "Cannot start. Cannot find the correct hard drive". So i shut it off and turned it back on, and it worked fine. Then, the next day, i tried to boot it up, and it came up with the same message again! I even tried taking the HDD out and putting back in again. Still does it! It only starts the first time about 50% of the time! Anyone have any suggestions or ways to fix this? Thanks in advance!

Hmm...it should ask to format the hard drive. I really don't know what's wrong with it. I upgraded mine without any problems. Maybe contact someone at Sony about it?

I get this every once in awhile as well. I upgraded my HDD about a month and a half ago. Just like you, i restart the console and it works fine after that. I wouldn't say that it happens 50% of the time, though. Maybe only once or twice a week. And my new hard drive isn't seagate, so it's probably a problem with the PS3.

7200rpm that's the problem.... mine's 5400rpm 500gb Seagate works fine so far.

I thought the speed really didn't matter too much when it comes to HDDs in PS3s. The only problem with 7200rpms is the heat that it creates. Guess it tries to stop you from doing so. Check if you connected the cable all the way would be the only thing I can think of.

Shouldn't be any problem with speed, had 7200rpm drive in mine for 9 months now, never had a single problem.

Try reformatting it, if that doesn't work it could be a dodgy HDD

Yep, i have heard that many people have problems with 7200rpm hdd's in the PS3, if possible return your 7200rpm hard drive and get a 5400 rpm drive, that would most likely sort it.
