While not the same as a power adapter, you could get a simple usb to AC adapter - if the cable running from the Vita is regular USB. At the least, you'd be able to plug it in a regular wall socket, which might be more convenient than a pc/laptop.
What I'vs seen in unboxing's is that the AC adapter that comes with the system is a usb adapter, but I don't know if the voltage to that is the same or if you'd need some kind of 'step down converter' to use it.
My Vita doesn't power up using usb, just tested it, symbol didn't change and ps button didn't became orange. It only loads using this little adapter from Sony.The adapter uses a power cable that looks like an 8. I use a travel adapter on the orginal cable, works here in Switzerland. Dunno if it's just my notebook that can't power the Vita or if it's all USB power supplier though.
