Just found out you dont need the battery pack in the psp to function.

By having the plug in sinserted in the pc you can still function it without the use of the battery pack.

Pretty sure it works with a DC wall charger too. Havn't tried it but wouldn't doubt it. If a gameboy can work on a wall charger I'm pretty sure a PSP can.
