I realize you must play the first one, but there is no way for me to do that. Will I get the full Mass Effect experience? Or will this be another video game great I must skip?

The PS3 Mass Effect 2 comes with a story introduction I think, so you don't need to play the first one.

Get it and you will still love it, just make sure you download the Cerberus pack when you first insert the disc (there is a serial key for it in the box, as long as it isn't preowned). This will then add a summary comic that tells you most of what happened in Mass Effect 1

Well, Mass Effect 2 is a really special game and if you are into it, I think you should really play it. I tried playing it but didn't understand much cuz it just sends you straight into the Mass Effet universe. I suggest that you look up the story of Mass Effect 1 and then you will know whats going on, then and only then play Mass Effect 2 and have a great time!!!:D

It's awesome and you won't be disappointed. The story line is so intriguing and the character interactions just pull you in! Get ready to dedicate some serious time to this game & have fun!

It's a pity you can't play the first one . It's only a pity because it's so good not because mass effect 2 is bad. I prefer the first one though but i liked the second one a lot too. It's a matter of taste i suppose. It's not that one or the other is better really but there are some differences. It's not needed to play the first one to get into the story of the second one especially with the nice story introduction. Mass effect 1&2 are must plays when you like sci fi. It's a shame there aren't any more games like that . Oh well , i heard they are busy with mass effect 3.

You can do some research online to get caught up. It won't be a waste of effort eitherbecause the Mass Effect universe is very deep and rewarding. Trust me, Mass Effect is a great series and it deserves all of the accolades and praise it has garnered.

It will still be worth it even if you know nothing about the first one. There isan intro that comes with it I believe.

Dispite what Gamespot has said IGN was right when they said PS3 has the best version.

However if you have played Mass Efect 2 on the 360 or PC then No it's not worth it not by a long shot.

Maybe wait for a price drop if you have it on another console, which I'm guessing you (TC) don't. Still, 59.99$ is a lot to pay for a single-player-only game, but it's an amazing game.

I say read up on the first Mass Effect. If you want, watch YouTube videos of the game. That's what I did. But yes ME2 is definitely worth it.

Get it, it is definitely one of my favorite games I've played. The dialogue options are really what make the game so great - I'm wrapping up my first playthrough were I choose mostly to be Paragon (good), and I can hardly wait to start my second playthrough as a Renegade (bad) character. The story is one of the best in any game I've played - all around it's an experience you shouldn't miss out on.

Edit: As for people who complain about the pricetag, I'd say ignore them - it's well worth it. To experience the full you have to at least play through it twice, and each playthrough will give you a lot of game time, even if the game is single-player only. I've spent about 30 hours on my first playthrough and haven't even gotten to everything yet.

I rarely buy games at full retail price and I can say Mass Effect 2 was worth every single krone :D

Only thing I've disliked so far is the interactive comic.

Never played ME 1 but picked up ME 2 anyway and loved it. ME 2 has great characters, a very good long story and the moral system is done very well.

Here's the thing. ME2 is a very story/character driven RPG and NOT an open world/exploration driven RPG.

yOU NEED THIS GAME. i HAVE both systems and played through both. Mass Effect is amazing. If your really into story driven games this is the one for you. You dont need to play the first one to understand whats going on, its just nice to give characters a background. Buy it right away my friend.

Yes, it's worth buying since it's not only Mass Effect 2, there's also content that normally costs you money.

i played me2 as my first game in the series and still liked it a lot (including the story). that said, i recommend reading a plot synopsis of the first one beforehand because the comic SUCKS.

it presents a bunch of choices with zero context to make the decision. either option is as meaningless as the other.

I pre-ordered ME2 and in aus it came out the same day as DS2 so i played DS2 first but while looking up ME2 i found that soon there should be a patch to fix a few problems like save data wipes and the likes so i don't want to risk playing it and have been waiting for the patch for awhile.

Mass Effect wasn't a great game, but it's worth it going through it for the backstory. The sequel is an outstanding game that's hold its own by itself,
