I've been playing Horizon Zero Dawn nonstop since launch and I'm loving it. RPG's generally take a long time to beat and because of the nature of the genre I prefer them to be open ended or at the very least have a "new game plus" option. When it comes to open world RPG's it's almost a necessity for me. After spending hundreds of hours discovering the map, collecting, and doing quests I don't want to complete the final mission and be taken back to the main menu. I can always save before it and use that save to keep playing, but it would be cool to still be in the world when everything is said and done.

They do put you back into the open world after you beat the game.

Yeah, it's not over after the final mission. It lets you keep on playing to do all the sidequests and whatever else you haven't finished.
