Is DESTINY dead?

So in october I bought PS4, I had to return it but Im buying it for real in a couple of weeks. I LOVED Destiny last time and the crucible was AMAZING.

My friend says it's dead now.. So should I still buy it or is it really dead? And is it still no ranking ladder?

I play it pretty regularly and have recently come across towers so full of players that I couldn't join in on a friend.

It's still pretty active. The maps always have other players running around and getting a fireteam for a strike is still pretty instant.

Destiny is still active. Never have trouble finding ppl for strikes and raids.

To sum it, Destiny is in a very weird spot right now. I still play it, but I just got it at Xmas and I've already hit that "why am I playing this fake MMO again?" wall
