If you cant get GTA to load...

Simply log out of your PSN. Disable your internet connection or unplug your ethernet cable(if your on a wired connection). I've also heard it helps to go onto your internet browser and delete the cache/cookies. If you cant get your online stats to save, dont worry NOBODY can. they need to patch it.

seriously trying to read trough the "official" GTA thread is annoying as hell. its just a bunch of people asking this same question and nobody reading the answer. something like this needs to be stickied so that the "official" GTA thread can actually involve some discussion about the game.

i was gonna try unplugging the ethernet, letting the game load, then plugging it back in. that way PSN should sign in and i might be able to go online. i've only had problems with the initial loading sequence myself. sooo if PSN signs in afterwards MAYBE it'll work.enygma500

No I tried plugging it back in once it loads. It signs in, but then the game freezes. We have to wait for a patch from Rockstar.

Definitly doesn't hurt them. Try unplugging the ethernet, and turn off auto-sign in on the PSN... then place again.

Also ensure your PS3 has a lot of space, and not in a cupboard. If heat builds up around it, it could account for freezes too.
