Easily Halo. Not saying it's the best, personally I'd like to see a non-shooter getting some love, but the fact that it's a shooter and all the excessive attention it gets, I don't think anything else would come close.

:lol:....Why all the Hate Guys!?? Anyway, if your talking shooters I would say theGRAW or RB6V franchises. COD is what bought in the casual gamers...if COD didn't exist...shooters wouldn't be the top platform for gaming.
If it didn't exist, game developers wouldn't assume that all it takes to have a successful game is competitive multiplayer. Thus, the world would be a better world. (I still play CoD--I just hate it).
If CoD didnt exist: There would be way LESS bouncing gun barrel games, LESS emphasis on MP and MORE emphasis on SP, and many of my friends would return to society bathed and productive.
If CoD didn't exist, I would probably be enjoying the Resident Evil games a lot more. Because games for the masses (CoD, GTA, etc.) that turned RE4 into action game. At Capcom, they thought, "hey, you know what, look how many games CoD and GTA sells, let's abandon our interesting gameplay style (survivor horror) and give the player Rambo-like arsenal, we can even make enemies that not even carrying guns drop ammo so the shooting never stops. We can all agree that's gonna piss the fans off, but we're gonna get more shooter players."
Probably Halo. But then if it wasn't Halo, all the annoying 12 year olds and hackers and wahtnot would be polluting other games. So I'm glad they have a place to call home that doesn't interfere with me.
PC gaming has been active for decades when it comes to online shooters, and CoD probably wouldn't be missed that much. But for online coonsole gaming, I'd have to give it to the series who really put MP on the map, Halo. Killzone multiplayer was the best I've played, but it doesn't have a footing because its only two games into the series. Maybe Battlefield would be the best successor in terms of style and era.
If Call of Duty didn't exist, Infinity Ward and Treyarch would actually have to try and be creative and make new games instead of remaking COD4 every year with a different setting like the keep doing. Also Activision would be so f***ing rich from publishing these games.....oh wait.....they still have WOW which has probably produced enough money by now to cure at least one type of cancer

Why does everyone act like CoD is the only game that doesn't change much in its sequels? Developers find a good formula for a game, it's a success, they create a sequel that's pretty much the same of hat people loved the first time, with a few changes, CoD is no exception, majority games don't change significantly in their sequels.

I would say Halo or Gears or God of War. They have all sold tons and tons of games. In terms of most people online I would have to stick with Halo or Bad Company 2 just because FPS are the most played online.
CoD was the first game I can recall that had the kind of iron sight system we see used in games constantly these days, maybe that kind of FPS aiming system wouldn't be in some of our favorite games if it weren't for them.
Haha I think the gaming world is too ill prepared to answer that question, that and gamer's lacking skill will have no COD to channel their frustration through..

idk man first person's have always been kinda the same ill admit call of duty for me is the best online first person shooter but if call of duty never exsisted it wouldnt make a difference i believe someone somewhere would make a military style shooter similar to call of duty thts my opinion....
Probably exclusives like Halo, Gears, Killzone 2, MAG, Resistance. There are plenty of great games out there every bit as good as COD. For some reason, the community is brain washed into thinking COD is the best right now. I do know this, the 360 sales wouldn't be as good. A lot of 360 owners bought Arcade models and such just for COD.
Battlefield most likely, just because it's a multi-platform title. See a lot of Halo's but that would only control the Xbox market. To be the biggest it has to have a wider audience. I could easily see Battlefield becoming what COD is now.
