Can someone please explain to me why some people own multiple gaming systems. They will have a PC, an Xbox, a PS4, a Switch, a Wii U, a PS3 etc. etc. all at once. You can only play on one system at a time and I do realize that some games are exclusive to only certain consoles but do you really need 12 gaming systems?

I find with one system I can get tons of different games like platforming games, adventure games, strategy games, all systems have the different types of games so why do you need all these different systems?

To me it's like owning 12 cars because one is just not good enough.

I don't get it, why own all these systems at once? Nothing better to spend your money on?

Why?

I can’t play Halo/Gears in PS, I can’t play TLOuR/Uncharted/KZ in Xbox. You don’t need to be fvcking Einstein to understand that.

I would love to be able to afford a 4wd for off-road, a daily car that's cheap on fuel and reliable, Then a car for fun. There are plenty of different types of cars. Gaming is cheaper

Well Zelda and Mario are only available on a Nintendo system. And PC has some nice exclusives like Divinity 2 or Subnautica.

Because people want to play all great games? And why are you to talk about where others spent their money? A hobby is always a "waste of money". Why do you game at all TC? Nothing better to spend your money on? See, pretty weak argument.

Also, TC, please try to understand this forums structure. This doesn't belong to the "PlayStation nation"board.

I don’t get why people eat different food every day.

I mean if you can only eat on meal at once and once you find a food you like why bother eating anything else.

I just eat dog shit

I usually like RPGs and RTSs more on the PC.

I use the PS4 for almost everything else. It was the better hardware at launch.

I picked up an Xbone for the Forza games.

This is kind of like that similar post I see a lot where ppl say "I can't stand why ppl play on PC. Holding a controller is much more preferred to hunching over mouse and keyboard"...

.....maybe think about it for a little longer before you make a stupid post and the answer will come to you.

@poe13: Both statements are valid, who the hell wants to play with a mouse and keyboard, or have 10 gaming systems because mom doesn't charge rent in the basement so you have money to blow on all these systems while asking mom for allowance and her car because one system is just not good enough, geez I need variety, it will be the end of the world if I don't play Halo and Mario Kart at the same time. Oh no I better get a PC too because I need to play that PC exclusive RPG, by the way mom can I have money for gas to put in your car, I also want to pick up the latest Black Panther pj's to add to my Green Lantern pj's, nipple

I can sort of relate to this. Not saying that people shouldn't own multiple consoles of course, and it's great if they do. The more games you get to enjoy the better! Personally though I have always only ever owned one at a time. If I wanted to try something else I'd trade in the old one first, and then put that store credit towards the new console.

Not sure why I do this tbh. I suppose I just feel guilty about spending so much on myself, and am never able to justify the purchase in my head. Kinda sucks actually as I've probably missed out on a lot of good stuff over the years due to having this mindset lol.

Because some people collect gaming systems. a person could just own a Wii U and nothing else but that would not be recommended.

Every gen I play Nintendo and Sony consol ... so yeah I do have my retro systems and the most recent one too.

While I like Sony, some games focused on gameplay first like it used to be it is fun so this is why I play Nintendo.

People can own as many gaming machines they want.

Why do you care? I think you are just jealous! You live in your trailer park and can only afford to play on PS2 that smells like dog poo, and that makes you really jealous of us who got money to buy as many games and consoles as we please.

Now, I got a job. I earn my paper. Im not on the dole like you. This means I can put my paper into anything I want. You dig?

Now run back to your momma, kid. Go on, scoot!

You guys are being mean to the TC for the sake of being a jackanape. It's not a stupid question. You guys are giving stupid responses.

Why do we need to buy in excess in consoles when one ought to provide the sufficient diversity in gaming is the question.

NOT what games are exclusive to what consoles. NOT it's better to have variety. Both of these arguments are weak as they say nothing.

We don't need to know exclusives. Why? Because you commit to a console by investing in a purchase. So, you may invest in the software to justify the purchase. To the average working dude, an exclusive is no reason to jump ship and begin a new investment. And before you guys start stating your professions and how you own every system, stop. I don't care. You are one person. And one and one are two people, not the middle class population. So, don't.

Now, variety. One console is filled to the brim with variety. My Vita has variety still, for bleeping's sake! I have God of War, Undertale, Need For Speed, and so on. One doesn't NEED to invest in more than one console for variety. More than one console is definitely an EXCESS luxury. NOT a luxury alone, smart guys. Gaming is a luxury. I mean, an EXCESSSSSS luxury. Like you have a pudding cup, but you decide to eat three. One was good, even though unnecessary. Three? That's gluttony.

And, geez, you defensive children, TC NEVER said anyone must buy ONLY ONE console. They simply asked what is the general need for it? And from most of the replies read, not one gave a decent answer.

Now, to answer the question: to own more than one console is a commitment to general gaming lifestyle, unlike the fanboy or the casual gamer. It is the urge to try different game styles on different systems in some. In others, it's a collecting thing. And some few, weak bragging rights. "I'm not a fanboy because I own every system". There is no legitimate reason to own more than one console, other than just having the money to burn on a hobby. Exclusives, variety, all that crap, they are excuses, not reasons, as they have no true merit in defense. May as well say, "I own every console because PC doubles as porn, Ninty is Ninty, PlayStation uses shapes in trademark, and XBOX buttons look like candy".

Hope that helps, TC.

I completely agree OP. I have a PS4, and I bought a Switch when I found it in stock at Best Buy but I admit it was a waste of money because I basically spend $300 for Nintendo first party games when I already had access to the full PS4 catalog. You can only play one game at a time.

it works like this.

If you buy into the AAA meme and never look outside that soup then the soup you have is rather small.

Thus to fill your time and interest you need to buy multiple copies of the same game with slightly different titles like 'enhanced edition' and you need to buy multiple consoles.

this is of course to show your loyalty and devotion.

No one needs to buy more than one console and no one needs 12 cars but nothing is saying that you can't. Gaming is truly a hobby for me but it's not a necessity. It's a money waste but I'll never see a return on any of my hobbies...I'm fine with it. I game as an old past time that I get a lot of enjoyment out of. It is something that I have done since my childhood when I first picked up an Atari 2600 joystick at my aunts house when she purchased one. I was enamored. So yes, I do own multiple systems and I play and enjoy each one of them.

Owning multiple things for one hobby or something recreational that you do for fun doesn't just apply to gaming, we see it everywhere. I enjoy a few different hobbies besides gaming that I am passionate about. I'm into flying FPV drones and own a few different ones. I love going fly fishing in the summer but love fishing in general, so I own different types of rods. Sometimes I just want to sit on a dock with a beer and use my spinner rod. I also love sports cars and racing and since I'm a die hard enthusiast of Lotus, I own two of their cars. Each thing in particular adds it's own different spin and advantage on the activity that I enjoy, same goes for my consoles.

As long as I am not breaking the bank, dipping into savings, there is food on the table and a roof over my head. If I enjoy it and can afford it and expand on it, why the hell not?

Strictly a "my opinion piece" :)

I need a Nintendo because only Nintendo they have Mario and zelda, but I need a Playstation because Nintendo only has Mario and zelda (imho, no offense to anyone who liked Wii sports). I need a ps3 (or Xbox 360) because ps4s (or Xbox ones) apparently won't play Fuel or Blood Dragon, but I need a ps4 (or Xbox one) because ps3s (or Xbox 360s) won't play Doom or the new god of war. I prefer Playstation because of ratchet and clank and because my ps3 lasted 4x longer than my 360 (one got the red ring of death and the other got stolen, go figure). And I need freaking something because my vita wouldn't run borderlands adequately and my phone won't run anything but emulators, Morrowind, Doom 1-3, and GTA San Andreas. I need to play video games because I can't work, ride my mountain board, go kayaking, and wheel my 4x4 every waking moment. I need to be entertained most of the time because I am, in fact, an incredibly boring individual who developed NES skills instead of social skills and personality. God Bless the 90's.

PS: stupid ads are trying to sell me a 'retro gaming system', like I didn't put those same games on at least eight computers, three PSPs, one iPod touch, one PS3, and every smartphone I've ever had and then some.

You have PC for desk, and then a new gen comes and you pick a console for your TV.

Then after 4-5 years of that console, the other racks up games you haven't played, and they become dirt cheap so people buy a 2nd.

Then they feel pity for Nintendo and buy whatever it is they built that gen.

Coolyfett has been gaming since 1989 (NES was first system). This topic is something Coolyfett is very opinionated on. One part of it is an to each his own, but another part is gamers & their wiener measuring contest that gets very annoying, especially on System Wars. Gamers can buy whatever they want, but its best not to over consume. The part that rubs Coolyfett the wrong way is the "You need a better job to own everything" crowd in the gaming community. As if gaming is only for people who make a lot of money. Its the stupidest thing to ever see & its not just Gamespot, IGN & Youtube where this sort of thing seen. Every Gen Coolyfett will only buy one system. It has always been that way since 1989. PlayStation is the preferred brand, but Nintendo will always be viewed as the master class because of their exclusives. If Coolyfett was to ever own more than 2 consoles one would most likely be a legacy system. Example a PS3 & PS4. Once the PS5 is there one of the older systems has to go.

LOL, that is actually kinda funny. The reactions to your question are to be expected. No one likes to feel guilty for wasting their money. Coolyfett understands exactly what you are getting at though, you are not alone on this thought process, but to each his own at the end of the day.

Guys, this is a pretty old thread. And not only that, it's a troll thread. I don't think anybody will ever remember what were going through their heads then. So at this point, making new replies to this thread is pretty useless... Just my two cents...
