How to: View Documents on PSVITA (Simplified)

Hello ladies and gentlemen.

In the first "How To: . . . (Simplified)" series, we learned how to upload and share VITA screenshots online. 

Now, I am here to show you how just a single Playstation VITA can play documents. Let's begin,

Additional (reccomendations):

   -> just log-in (via the browser)

1. Head to -> Settings -> Language:

(The add/edit term index has a character limit)

• First, add this term:

• Than add:

Before the following, close any apps/games you think would cause the web browser to autorefresh and freak out (to my knowledge, this includes any type of PSP, VITA, PSM game as well as FB, Paint Park, Content Manager, Wake-up Club, Welcome Park, Music Unlimited, and a few more). 

2. Head to-> Browser 

 Reccomended:

Open any blank tab in the brower -> 

head up to the URL text field + find and add both added "index terms" ->

Press enter. Close tab. You have just created a predictive term instance. 

 You must locate and secure a document's [http://] and [.documentfiletype] URL. Than, tap+hold to click out in a new window.

An error message prompt, "Cannot download . . . " -> Click okay -> stay on this tab 

• The "Name" field can be changed to your liking (this does not affect anything importantl, it's just to organize).
• Always delete the "http://" portion in the "Adress" first. This neutered URL is hereby reffered to as the target URL!
• The "Location" of this bookmark is wherever you want it to be (again, it's just to keep things organized)

• Certain characters (in the target URL) must be encoded.
• [ %2F <-> / ] . . . is the most common URL encoding translation.

If you've not wisened up already, this is the type of URL encoding the Google Docs reader/converter page does (to your target URL) in the back end. You're manually activing these javascript, URL Encoding automations, and placing the final product into a bookmark just by augmenting a few URL snippets (using the tools given by the VITA). Hold on!

Before anything is ready to be Google Doc'd - here are even more characters to watch out for (incase your target url has any iffy characters),

• Click "OK" -> You're done! (just locate it by clicking in the browsers heart icon afterwords)  . . . 

3. Google Drive + Google Drive interface <-> Playstation VITA Browser (Extra)

You will get odd pop-ups every now and again. Hold either L/R to bring out your "pointer" and click "dismiss" to close these pop-ups.

•  (If your browser is already logged into Google drive) Tap "add to drive" button
• View the document in your account

Keeping stuff like documents in the cloud is a great thing. Namely, if you loose or replace your VITA memory card, all it would take to recover lost documents is logging into to Google. You have all that stuff in virtual drive, not just in your VITA card.

•  Locate the saved document in your Google Drive account

• View -> "Compact controls" (suggested for those that want to use Edit -> "Find" functionality)
• View -> "Full Screen" (only a full tab refresh can bring back the google docs tool bar!)

That's it for doc viewing. There are editing features in Google Drive's Documents. I would only recommend them for playing around with (try not to edit and ruin an important document by using this feature on your VITA browser.)

Oh yes, a .ppt animation can be played (minus audio)! Just open the .ppt file in Google slides and find the "present" button.

Thanks blab. It's a big story on reddit's /r/vita subforums right now. 

It's a long page (and a lot of people are confused about it), but I will just distill it down right now. Once you get step one down you're done with most of the typing in/punching in letter and stuff. Than visit the browser, pop-out your document to a new tab. The next part, think of it as a game..

Go into the bookmarks addres bar

use square to wipout the first "http://" portion (boom! - you got a target URL).

Now type in "ht . . " than you're adding in the terms.

Finally, look at your target url and watchout for bad characters.

Clean it up. Ok. Bookmarks. Ok.

That's it.

p.s. Since you connected to Google Drive, any document can be viewed in that account. All that stuff will be compatible on a vita. Regardless if you uploaded a document on your vita today or from your PC yesterday.

As a backstory, I literally spent some two days coming up some sort of method to pull URL's into the Google Docs reader app from the vita. Than, it hit me to to a little bookmark duct tape job. Not the best way, but it's the only way (for vita). I spent an all nighter getting the tut up, taking screenshots and working in paint park. (Sloppy as it is). Meh, I just wanted to share it with everyone bc it was like a eureka moment. Ha. Docs on VITA, y'all! ^^

I have baggs under my eyes and I'm not sure whether I'm walking right now, but it's all good. :)

I'm fully aware that the tut is being meet with a lot of confusion (and more resistance than I first assumed) when putting making and publishing the final product online. And, I know the tut can seem like a wall of text/images. I can assure you it's not daunting in practice. First, read through the tut (up until the end of step two), than try it with the PDF (pictured in the OP) here:

So, at least there's one person (on reddit) who did it. The way I paraphrased it to him/her was,

I think the only part people seem to be confused on is the URL encoding of a target URL. Think of it as a game.

Go to your PDF's URL location, bookmark, recognize the target url and punch in the two index terms, stealthy-like replace the targets unwanted characters with a hex code (e.g. "/" -> "%2F"). As you get better in this "game", you will easily locate your target URL in the address bar, punch in the two terms, sniff out bad characters, and get your item at the end.

Call me crazy, but that's what I think when I do this. I make it a pattern recognizing practice using the VITA's UI (VITA lacks a basic copy+paste function for w/e reason) and at the end is a neat looking thing. It's good when thinking of this as a game with a document as a prize at the end.

Also, I will only continue doing this in a very active and highly traffic'd forum/subforum. I say that bc I also realized I need more concrete feedback, and that comes in masses of data from people trying this and kinda failing (the reddit sub I made on this has over 2X more responses than the message boards).

Cheer up though! I'm currently working on more browser based vita tips. If anything really cool pops-up I will 100% passing that onto the public. ^^

Yea I'd appreciate some info about the browser, e-mail app, Vita themes or a really efficient and easy way to convert and transfer video files to VITA or maybe stream them from a PC etc... this kind of stuff! I mean reading PDF files on vita is okay but honestly it's not somethign that would make many people interested. Just sayin you know....
