The only Metal Gear game that held my interest long enough to play through to the end was MGS4. I've tried all of the others and I just couldn't get into them.
I will, however, try them again because I really did like MGS4, so maybe I'll appreciate them more now.
I only watch the movie clips the first time, the 2nd time or more I'll watch some )sometimes), or usually none. The stealth gameplay is what gets me in MGS.
MGS1 = 5, MGS2 = 3, MGS3 = 4, MGS4= 9, and I forgot about Portable Ops which I beat twice. So actually its 23 times total even though I accidently hit 16-20. Man, I'm such a fanatic. Snake has always been my hero.

Topic title says MGS series, not Metal Gear series in its entirety. If were including them, I've played through Metal Gear 4 times, and Metal Gear 2 twice. I've also played through VR missions once, both Metal Gear Acid games once, and I'm playing Metal Gear Solid Touch on the iPhone every now and then. Havent completed it, and its really not very good despite being pretty to look at.

Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2 are part of the series, they are crucial to the storyline...by your logic, it's like saying Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core isn't part of the Final Fantasy VII Canon...

Firstly, I barely played MGS1. I picked up MGS2 due to good word of mouth, it looking really cool, and being a fan of the NES Metal Gear games and loved the first half but then I turned into a homosexual roboninja and I'm like "WTF? This isn't what I signed up for!" and gave the game away. I later picked up MGS3, but ended up getting an Xbox 360 a few weeks later and never finished that. I got around to getting a PS3 later on and finished MGS4, which was the only Metal Gear Solid game I've finished. It was really good too.
