Assuming you got at some point the infamous YLOD, how long did your console last?
Please list the model (fat/slim) and HD capacity.
I want to calculate the average life-span of the console.

I lost faith in the PS3 when my phat 80gb died, no way are these things meant to last ten years. None of the current gen hardware is meant to (aside from nintendo)robmonga2How long did you have it for?

Though my friend still has the original 60gb, but he doesn't play 1/8 the amount I do.

I bought mine in 02/08 and it just died on me a few days ago (after 2 and a half years), which I think is a ridiculously short and unaccepted life-span. I preformed Gilsky's fix successfully, only to play another hour or so, and then while trying to batch a Blue Ray movie, the system just shut down and the red light started flashing.... i am still able to turn it on and all, but wont do it out of fear it will YLOD again. I did play extensively the past year or so, but that's what the console is for.
How did you get them to send you a new one after 2 years? Weren't you pass your warranty?YLOD after 2 years and now the one they sent me back is unplayable because of crazy loud fan
bundymatic
red blinkin light 3yrs 2 days(60gb). now i have an old 40gb with a 320gb its turnin 3yrs old im startin 2 worry a little.
Mine lasted just over a year and two months. It's an 80GB Motorstorm bundle PS3 with PS2 compatability through emulation. I didn't get the YLOD, it just stopped reading all discs. Got it back from repair last August and it's been fine since.
My 60 gig launch is still going but is in need of a new video card soon.
Sorry false alarm I found the problem and it's not a video card it was the video output switch from component cable to hdmi and it nowworks great again. I'm so happy :D
I got my 60GB PS3 at launch and it died last year in July. Replaced it with an 80GB version and it's still going strong. Hopefully I'm not jinking myself.
I got the YLOD a long time ago, within 8 months of owning a PS3, but because of the one year warranty, I got it replaced for free :D
Got the MGS4 80 gig bundle and it's still running with no problems. I always shut it down properly (except for a couple of instances beyond my control) and keep a pillow case over it to keep the dust out when not running.
