Anyone else have a problem where at night, when herds of dinos are roaming around, their lights will occasionally cause artifacting in the form of long horizontal light beams spreading across the screen from the light source?

My PS4 (OG model) doesn't seem to be running hot or loud when this happens - my first instinct would have been hardware stress. It looks a wee bit like something you see when you push your GPU clocks too high.

But I don't see any signs of anything awry. It doesn't happen often - I suppose it could just be a bug in the lens flare code or something causing the light source to spread incorrectly.

@xantufrog: are you sure that it's not a feature? as in when you stare directly into a machine's eye in the dark you get momentarily dazzled - like when you stare at a bright light - and it causes artefacts in your vision. that's how i interpreted it anyway lol

Well their light illuminate a lot and blind you a little.

There is some part of the world that when there is light at night you can see the beam as if the light goes through smoke or humidity

it's called "jj abrams' lens flare" in the media, it has been overused in many of his films, hence the name, i don't think much of it, it is an artistic choice of the creators... :D

if you are interested there is a short video... :)

I'm not sure that's what I'm describing - those lens flare lines have soft edges. I'm talking like a hard-edge, few-pixel-wide beam that stretches across the screen from each of the light sources. It really doesn't look like an effect, unless it's an effect poorly coded. It will appear on the other side of a tree from the light source - like somehow it has cut through the tree.

@xantufrog, during my play through i came across the lens flare effect quite often at night time, just like the ones in the short movie i have shared, if you are talking about something else, then i don't think i have seen it in the game... :)

edit: is this it? if so, it's artificial lens flare... :)

@MondasM: yeah I snapped some pics but that is basically it - just shitty lens flare I guess. Can get really bad when it's a pack of them at night

i thought it was quite a nice effect actually. horizon is full of little touches like that which sets it apart from other games. it's not a million miles off r*-esque polish
