Well i have a **** Linskys router the cheapest one and it works fine just my pc and ps3 battle it out to gain connection and my pc gets confused sometimes but other then that works fine online.
I have 3 laptop's, a PS3 and a Replay TV all pulling IP's from a Linksys WRT54G wireless router. The only one that is wired is the Replay TV. I game daily on a laptop to play GuildWars, the Wife is on daily with her laptop and the PS3 is on daily as well. I have NO problems with my Linksys WRT54G router. It does need to be correctly configured, but once that is done, you are set!
